Former Congressman Joe Walsh Threatens ‘Cop Hater’ Obama On Twitter Following Dallas Shootings

Former Congressman turned syndicated radio host Joe Walsh is now under fire for publishing a now-deleted tweet threatening US President Obama and #BlackLivesMatter protesters on Thursday, The Wrap reports.

Walsh, who represented Illinois’ 8th district from 2011 to 2013, posted a series of tweets in response to the Dallas sniper shootings, which reportedly killed five police officers and injured six others.

“This is now war. Watch out Obama. Watch out black lives matter punks. Real America is coming after you,” Walsh wrote in the already deleted tweet.

People immediately lashed out at Joe Walsh for the noxious tweet, with many of them pointing out the implicitly racist overtones of his statement. Many called the former politician racist for calling #BlackLivesMatter protesters “punks” and criticized him for the context with which he used the term “Real America.”

After about half an hour, Walsh deleted the tweet, which you can read below courtesy of MSNBC producer Kyle Griffin.

While the conservative radio host did delete that one tweet, he allowed subsequent tweets directed at Obama and “cop haters” to remain on his Twitter feed. Based on his barrage of tweets, it’s clear that he is blaming Obama for the deaths of the police officers in the Dallas sniper attacks.

Before long, Joe Walsh posted another series of tweets, this time clarifying that he wasn’t calling for violence against “Obama or anyone” and pointing out that it’s “time for us to defend our cops.”

“I wasn’t calling for violence, against Obama or anyone,” he wrote. “Obama’s words & BLM’s deeds have gotten cops killed. Time for us to defend our cops.”

“Time for America – white, black & brown – to stand up to the Cop haters If good people stay silent, the haters will continue their violence,” he added.

This wasn’t the first time Joe Walsh was criticized for racist behavior on the social media site. In 2014, he was temporarily kicked off his own radio show for using racial slurs in the program. Shortly after he got suspended from the show, he posted a sarcastic tweet, saying, “Found out if I said Redskins or Cracker or Redneck Bible Thumper, I could stay on. But if I said n****r or S***k, they cut me off.”

Buzzfeed News correspondent Brandon Wall posted a screenshot of Walsh’s series of tweets in regards to his suspension from the radio show.

Meanwhile, CNN reports that five police officers have died in the recent sniper shootings at a #BlackLivesMatter protest in Dallas. The protest was organized in response to the death of two African Americans who were killed by police officers in Louisiana and Minnesota.

Some have been quick to blame the protesters for the killing of the officers despite reports and videos proving that the protest was peaceful in nature. As reported by Mic News, the #BlackLivesMatter protest was so peaceful that some officers went out of their way to pose for photos with some of the protesters.

Some of those who joined the protest took to Twitter to point out that the shootings started around the time the protests were about to end and that the shots came from a building, not the protesters.

While it remains unclear how many suspects were involved, CNN reports that three suspects in the Dallas shootings are now in custody.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown said that a total of eleven police officers were shot during the protests, with the last one involved in an exchange of gunfire with one of the suspects. Two of the snipers reportedly fired at the officers from “an elevated position.” According to Brown, the suspect told the officers that “the end is coming” and that there are bombs planted all over Dallas during the gunfire exchange.
