Swallowed Diamond Was A Fake, Police Still Searching For $13,000 Jewel

A strange story just got a little stranger. Earlier this week it was reported that a jewel thief swallowed a 1.5 carat diamond worth $13,000. Well, it turns out that the diamond that Chou Wan swallowed was fake.

According to The Star, police caught Wan after he swallowed the $13,000 diamond, brought him to the hospital to get an X-ray, then gave him a laxative to retrieve the stone. Once the diamond was recovered the National Gem and Jewelry Authority was called in to inspect it.

No word on who pulled the short straw at the NGJA and had to inspect the recently swallowed diamond but whoever did determined that the jewel was a fake. The location of the real diamond is still a mystery.

Police spokesman Ajith Rohana believes that the diamond may have been stolen by another Chinese man who was seen with Chou at the diamond expo. Exhibitor Suresh Wijekoon said said that he saw two Chinese men behaving suspiciously at the exhibit. According to Suresh, the real diamond may have been swallowed as police took Chou away.

So, is this the greatest diamond heist ever?
