Demi Lovato And Selena Gomez’s Complicated Friendship Isn’t About Bieber: ‘Body Say’ Singer Explains What Happened Between Her And Gomez In Their On Again, Off Again Friendship

Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez have a complex friendship, to say the least. The two singers have had their share of arguments, but their relationship always seems to recover somehow because they’ve been friends for so long. Now, for the first time, Demi Lovato spoke on her relationship with Gomez. The two stars have practically grown up together on the Disney Channel, and have similar musical roots as well.

Lovato seems to think that the issues between her and Selena aren’t part of some sort of scandal or bad blood. When asked by Complex magazine about the origins of her iciness towards Gomez, the “Cool For The Summer” singer stated “…people change…you have things in common, and then you don’t.” The 23-year-old also dispelled rumors that she dislikes the “Stars Dance” artist because of Gomez’s former relationship with Justin Bieber.

Both performers have matured a lot in recent years, and this is evident in their music. Whereas each previously wrote and performed fun, happy-go-lucky songs, both artists have evolved to write songs which cover more serious matters such as breakups and self-esteem.

The vocalists’ friendship goes back 10 plus years when they got their start on the show Barney And Friends, as MTV discovered. Since then, Demi has acted in such shows and movies as Camp Rock and Sonny With A Chance, while Selena starred as Alex Russo in the Disney series Wizards of Waverly Place.

Both singers also used Disney Channel as a platform to launch their musical careers. Demi most famously belted out the song “Let It Go” from Frozen, and Selena sang the theme song to Wizards of Waverly Place, entitled “Everything Is Not What It Seems.”

Demi has supposedly had falling outs with other artists as well. Taylor Swift and her ever-loyal “girl squad” reportedly unfollowed the pop princess after they had an argument over Ke$ha’s lawsuit against Dr. Luke. The Alberquerque, NM, native has definitely never been afraid to say what she’s thinking, and this has both won her and lost her friends.

So, what exactly does Selena have to say about this purported “feud”? The “Stars Dance” singer recently shot down rumors that her “womance” with Taylor Swift hurt her friendship with her former bestie. Seventeen reported that Demi had answered a fan who asked how Selena was by saying, “Ask Taylor.”

This led fans to speculate there was some “Bad Blood” brewing between the two Disney Channel alums. Luckily though, this doesn’t seem to be the case. The singer is a part of Taylor’s infamous “Girl Squad” of loyal followers, but apparently this hasn’t caused problems with Demi lately.
