Game of Thrones Spoiler Hinted by George R.R. Martin 14 Years Ago—What’s The Real Identity of Jon Snow And How Is He Related to Daenerys Targaryen?

It was just sitting under our noses. Game of Thrones novelist George R.R. Martin has actually given everyone a hint on the true colors of the Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister and the infamous Jon Snow.

With everything that has happened during the previous season, everyone is speculating on the plot lines of Game of Thrones Season 7. Daenerys Targaryen has already summoned a massive army as she sails on her way back to Westeros. She is probably the highlight of the entire season.

However, as fans and critics begin to wonder how HBO will move forward for the next season, a reader pointed out a very specific detail that could change the way we see Daeynerys and Jon Snow’s connection with each other.

In a Q&A posted on George R.R. Martin’s site, Westeros.org, the novelist gave a very important hint that will be relevant in the storyline.

The 14-year-old questionnaire noted, “Since all of their mothers died, who gave Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister their names?”

To which the author answered, “Mothers can name a child before birth, or during, or after, even while they are dying. Dany was most like named by her mother, Tyrion by his father, Jon by Ned.”

Though George R.R. Martin did not really push on the details, his hint was subtle, but important. He mentioned the explicit relationships of Daeneyrys and Tyrion with their name givers, while Jon Snow was just named by Ned, as if he has nothing to do with him.

*Please note that there are spoilers after this part.*

This just moved a bigger fan theory that could be carried out on the next season. According to the theory, Jon Snow has a very interesting lineage. Jon Snow has always been shadowed by his family and that is why his character has been the focus of the show most of the time.

Ned Stark has been known as his father, but theories about the R+L=J seemed to be transforming into a reality. It was assumed that Jon Snow is not Ned Stark’s son, but his sister, Lyanna’s. Since Lyanna was captured by Rhaegar Targeryen, Daenerys’ older brother, it is possible that Jon Snow was the fruit of their love.

Aside from George R.R. Martin’s hint 14 years ago, the finale also featured Bran Stark and his three-eyed raven powers observing Ned as he was looking for Lyanna. When he found her, Ned took a baby from her.

After all these years of being branded as a bastard, Jon Snow will finally have the recognition of not only having Stark blood in him, but also that of Targaryen’s. Still, Lyanna never told Jon Snow who his father is.

As for Jon Snow, he is rising above everyone else. It was also noted by a Reddit user that the character has been a “legendary” figure for the Free Folk.

“The Free Folk are a culture that respects strength and courage above all else, and have a strong oral tradition. After everything that’s happened so far, Jon Snow will definitely be one of the most important characters in Free Folk lore for the children of the survivors.”

Jon Snow has killed Qhorin Halfhad and other dangerous fighters among the Free Folk like Styr. Aside from the protection he gave the Free Folk, he was able to successfully convince them to join forces and come at the south of the wall.

Jon Snow has been arranging his own armada and alliances with the Free Folk. It would be interesting to see how this would connect to Khaleesi’s massive army.

At the same time, would they even know that they are connected as auntie and nephew? We just have to watch out for Season 7.
