‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 7 Theories: Several Key Characters Could Be Wedded In Preparation For The ‘GOT’ Finale [Spoilers]

The Game of Thrones Season 6 finale undeniably brought the series closer to its end point than it’s ever been, with the battle for the Iron Throne now set to be between the incredibly powerful Daenerys Targaryen, fan favorite character Jon Snow, and incumbent Queen Cersei Lannister. With Targaryen and Snow using the Season 6 finale to demonstrate their strength, Cersei Lannister doesn’t look to stand much chance of remaining on the Iron Throne for all too long.

However, Cersei Lannister, who blew up part of King’s Landing to take her place on the Iron Throne, is likely to have a plan in place to make sure she retains that place. With that in mind, ahead of the release of Game of Thrones Season 7, fans of the hit HBO fantasy drama have been speculating over exactly what Cersei Lannister’s next move will be.

According to Mashable, there’s one firmly prominent theory and it involves another momentous Game of Thrones wedding. Whilst many of Westeros’ great houses are turning their back on the Lannisters and transferring their support to the next Targaryen dynasty, Cersei still has one more card left to play, Euron Greyjoy. The concept behind the theory initially appears to be a little far-fetched, however, mounting evidence from the most recent season of the show points towards a marriage between Cersei Lannister and Euron Greyjoy.

Viewers of Game of Thrones were introduced to Euron Greyjoy earlier in Season 6 when he killed his brother, Balon Greyjoy. Quickly following that, Euron assumed the title of King of the Iron Islands, planning to marry Daenerys Targaryen and into the crown. However, Daenerys Targaryen has since supported Yara Greyjoy’s claim to the Iron Islands, making it an almost certainty that Euron Greyjoy won’t be able to marry his Queen of choice.

In King’s Landing, Cersei Lannister recently made her ascension to the throne. However, in doing so, she alienated a large majority of the key players in Westeros, meaning that she could very well struggle to retain her throne when Daenerys Targaryen invades the remanents of King’s Landing. However, there’s still hope left for Cersei in the form of Euron Greyjoy.

The aforementioned union between Cersei Lannister and Euron Greyjoy won’t be the only wedding in Game of Thrones Season 7, however. According to the International Business Times, there’s widespread speculation that another marriage will draw parallels in the show’s upcoming season. That particular marriage will be between two of Game of Thrones‘ favourite characters amongst fans, Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow, now both powerful players in Westeros, following the conclusion of Season 6.

That most recent season finale brought with it confirmation of the popular R+L=J theory, placing Jon Snow firmly in the running for the Iron Throne, against, most prominently, his aunt by blood, Daenerys Targaryen. However, it’s becoming less and less likely that Game of Thrones will pit two fan favorite characters against each other, with widespread speculation that, much like Cersei Lannister and Euron Greyjoy, Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow could be wedded by the end of Game of Thrones Season 7.

It would certainly be a fitting ending for Game of Thrones to bring together ice and fire in the form of Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. However, Game of Thrones is known as a show packed full of twists, meaning that the final picture could be altogether very different to the one fans envisaged.
