‘The Vampire Diaries’ Nina Dobrev Ian Somerhalder Are New Villains?

The Vampire Diaries stars Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder have always remained fan favorites thanks to their outstanding portrayal of Elena and Damon. Many critics earlier quoted that their amazing onscreen chemistry was because of their real life relationship. When the couple parted back in the year 2013, many fans wondered when they would get to see them together again in the supernatural series. If recent reports are to be believed then Dobrev’s return in the TVD Season 8 is confirmed, but this time, her character will have antagonizing characteristics.

There were earlier reports that many fans of Dobrev intend to see her reprising the role of Elena, whereas there were many speculations that to avoid Somerhalder, the xXx actress will choose to return as Katherine. However, Celeb Dirty Laundry recently reported that The CW will not bring back the actress as Elena nor as Katherine. The publication further noted that, since the production used her voice in the season 7’s finale, there are chances that they will bring her as a new villain who tends to destroy the entire lineage of all those who are trying to save the world.

Does this mean that Dobrev and Somerhalder will share screen – not as a couple, but as two individuals who are fighting with each other?

Before the finale of The Vampire Diaries’ Season 7 finale, The CW made an official announcement that the supernatural series is surely coming for Season 8. Although the show’s future is still unclear after the season, as its ratings have stalled ever since Dobrev announced her retirement from the show in 2015. If the upcoming season is going to be the last season, then showrunner Julie Plec will try her very best to bring their lead actress back in the show.

In an interview with TV Line, Plec appreciated Dobrev’s decision to pursue her career elsewhere, but she assured the fans that she is going to bring her back.

“In my opinion, she was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she’s doing a great job of achieving that. So I’m sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end.”

On the other hand, Somerhalder also confirmed his retirement from the show. In his interview with TV Guide, the Lost star stated that the writing team has not yet decided what they are going to show in Season 8 but he is surely leaving the show.

“We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice. It’s almost like we’ve been chasing a high for the last five, six years. So let’s take things one step at a time: Season 7 wrap, vacation, lots of sleep, let the writers get started on Season 8, and then we’ll all see where we go from there.”

All these speculations and star interviews suggest that, whether they are on good terms or not, they will try to share the screen for one last time before The CW will decide not to renew The Vampire Diaries for future seasons. A close source to the star and the show also mentioned that TVD has made Dobrev and Somerhalder, and the least they can do is to reprise their roles to save the series. According to Hollywood Life, the source further stated that the actress is 10,000 percent coming back.

“When the show ends Nina will be a part of it some way shape or form. She is 10,000 percent coming back. The show did so much for their careers and put them on the map. For Julie Plec and the other writers and creators. They feel like they owe it to them to suck it up and send the show off any way they want to send it off.”

Based on the fan following of The Vampire Diaries, one can state that fans do not care which character Nina Dobrev will portray in Season 8, as long as they get to see her sharing screen space with her ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder.
