Fans can watch the Wales vs. Portugal football match live online and see Real Madrid teammates Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale compete for a berth in the Euro 2016 championship game.

Wales is looking to continue what is the nation’s longest run in a major tournament, while Portugal is looking to win its first match in regulation this tournament after advancing to the semifinal on penalty kicks in each knockout round. The teams will meet in Stade de Lyon on Wednesday, with kickoff scheduled for 8 p.m.

Fans who watch the Wales vs. Portugal football match live online will see if a British team can reach the final of a major tournament for the first time in 50 years. It will be quite the task, as many see Wales as an underdog to Ronaldo’s squad — especially without star midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who is suspended for the match against Portugal.

“We’ll be the underdogs, but we believe in each other,” Wales manager Chris Coleman told the BBC.

The match is something of a nation-stopping event in Wales, where more than half of the nation’s 3 million population is expected to be watching, the BBC noted. There are expected to be 20,000 Welsh fans in the stadium itself.

Jonathan Ford, the chairman of the Football Association of Wales, said the team’s fighting spirit is a perfect match for the people of Wales themselves.

“These players will run through brick walls for us. This has been a fantastic demonstration of team spirit, team morale, teamwork,” he told BBC Sport. “Sport and culture are the two things that really help us define Wales and the Welsh people.”

While there was much attention on the incredible run for Iceland to the quarterfinals, Wales has quietly put together an astounding run of its own. After falling all the way down to No. 117 in the world rankings just five years ago, the Welsh squad had steadily improved and is the second-highest scoring team in the tournament.

It is not impossible for Wales to defeat Portugal, but ESPNFC analyst Glen Wilson noted that the loss of some key players will make the task a little harder.

“While Portugal have stuttered and stumbled, Wales have won four of their five matches and, were it not for France’s rout of Iceland, Wales would be arriving in Lyon as the tournament’s top scorers.

“But while Wales fly blind and fearlessly, suspensions for Aaron Ramsey and Ben Davies mean Chris Coleman must change a winning side to function without two of his most impressive performers. It all points to the biggest test of Wales’ ‘together, stronger’ team ethic to date.”

Wales will face a team — and a star player — with a bit of extra motivation. After Ronaldo’s longtime rival Lionel Messi endured a heartbreaking loss for his Argentina team in the Copa America final, Ronald said he felt the pain.

The loss was Messi’s fourth chance to win a major international tournament, and the failure was so sharp that Messi retired from the national team.

As Ronaldo looked to bring his own team to the brink of a major title, he said he sympathize for his rival.

“He has made a tough decision and people should understand,” Ronaldo said (via AS). “He is not accustomed to defeats and disappointments. Finishing second and missing a penalty does not make you a bad player.”

“It hurts to see Messi in tears and I hope he returns to play for his country, because he needs it,” Ronaldo added.
