It has been about a year since Anna Todd announced she had a “six-figure” deal to make a film based on her “erotic” One Direction fan fiction called After. However, it appears that it is not over yet for Anna Todd’s One Direction fiction, and there are even hints that the film is still in the works.
For example, on July 1, Anna Todd, writer of the One Direction fan fiction that the movie After is based on, casually tweeted the hashtag #excitedforaftermovie. Is this a sign that a true update about the One Direction movie is on the way?
According to Twitter posts from July 2, Daniel Sharman and Indiana Evans have been officially cast as the stars of the Paramount Picture for the One Direction fan fiction movie.
Indiana Evans was eyed for the role months ago, but, according to Twitter, Daniel Sharman only joined the cast of the One Direction movie around June.
Interestingly, it appears that other tweets seem to be asking fans to urge Paramount Pictures to start filming the One Direction movie… and that is an indicator that the After movie has not made it into production.
Alternatively, it is a promising sign that the One Direction film will actually be made because they have cast the actors for After.
Other important After Twitter accounts that have posted several updates about the One Direction movie in July include @AfterUpdates, @After_Russia, @AfterBrasil_, and @AfterNews. The After fan army is called #Afternator and sometimes a post is tagged with #Hessa for Hardin and Tessa.
The last real update in the media about Anna Todd or After was when Fashion and Style reported about the One Direction fan fiction film around December 2015 quoted Anna Todd stating the following.
“[Susan McMartin, who has been tapped to pen the film], actually just submitted the script a few days ago… So now we’re just waiting, waiting, waiting. But it feels like, from what I can say, that things are going to happen very quickly from then on.”
This followed Anna Todd being added to Simon and Schuster‘s list of authors.
Some things that can be learned from Anna Todd’s Instagram and Twitter accounts is that her multi-book series After and Before have both been translated into other languages such as French. Anna Todd is also frequently giving away hard copies of her book to #Afternator fans.
On July 17, 2015, Billboard interviewed Anna Todd about After and stated the following.
“I never thought I could be an author… But I used the Internet, and that’s what set me apart.”
Tech Insider adds to this on July 28 and shows that it is not just about teen fans that love One Direction and quoted Anna Todd stating her demographic at book signings included “everyone from 15-year-old girls to 45-year-old women.”
Sadly, Anna Todd might be laying low about the details on the next phase of the new One Direction movie because she has had some bad experiences in the past.
As it appears, One Direction fan fiction authors need to watch their backs, according to Bustle. On November 30, 2014, it was reported that Anna Todd was harassed by fans after she attended the American Music Awards.
Then again, Anna Todd might be willing to ward off wayward One Direction fans that cross boundaries because anything related to 1D appears to be made of gold.
For example, One Direction might have enough money to last them and this might make the idea of reuniting impossible. According to Billboard, One Direction’s career sales are astronomical and include “7.6 million total albums [sold] in the U.S.”
