Kim Kardashian Nude Dresses Make Fashion Splash For Spring/Summer 2016 [Photos]

Kim Kardashian’s nude dresses have made a definite fashion splash during her public appearances in May and June, as reported by the Mirror Online and The Huffington Post. The Kardashian/Jenner women are very much known for their love of neutrals, with the arguable exception of Caitlyn Jenner, who seems to experiment with brighter colors a bit more often than the other Kardashian/Jenner women do, instead of just sticking to nudes, black, browns, and shades of gray.

Kim Kardashian‘s preference for sexy nude and basic black outfits could actually be seen as a nod to New York City, often considered the runner-up to Paris in terms of which city is considered the fashion capital of the world. Kardashian is also known for what Harper’s Bazaar refers to as her “signature nude lip,” because she wears a notably nude-hued lip gloss that is reminiscent of the look that was popular in the 1960s — though that look was usually achieved using white lipstick.

Kim Kardashian’s sexy nude dress of the moment is a mini-dress that she debuted on June 25 at her husband Kanye West’s Los Angeles screening for his recently controversial music video for the song “Famous,” which features fictional depictions of several public figures in the nude — including Kardashian and West themselves, as well as Kanye West’s ostensible arch nemesis, pop star and songwriter Taylor Swift.

Kardashian’s nude dress was described by Mirror Online as “skintight.” Kardashian went with a two-piece ensemble for West’s screening, and layered a nude vest under the dress (which was a slightly different shade of the standard nude color, creating a more dynamic and less one-note look), uncharacteristically covering the cleavage that the nude dress alone would have left exposed.

Kardashian intriguingly paired clear plastic shoes with her nude dress and nude vest combo — the “Cinderella” style Perspex® (the same material that is also known as Plexiglas®) pumps could easily have been mistaken for nude pumps from a distance. Nude pumps have come roaring back into style in the United States since the introduction of HRH Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge (known as Kate Middleton before her marriage to Prince William of Wales) as a style icon. Kate wears nude pumps very often, almost exclusively, and she popularized one L.K. Bennett style in particular — the nude Sledge pump.

“Keeping bling to the [sic] minimum, she accessorised with a barely-there silver choker and gold chain. Her raven hair was loose and her make-up flawless with smoky brown eyes and nude lips that matched her outfit.”

Kim Kardashian was declared “the queen of the nude dress” by The Huffington Post in May. The Huffington Post examined the concept of a nude dress not just in terms of color, but also the use of sheer fabric, sometimes as an overlay. Kardashian’s nude dresses on red carpets and at other public appearances often have this quality, as opposed to the aforementioned nude ensemble that she wore to Kanye West’s music video screening, which looked opaque.

Kardashian’s nude Roberto Cavalli gown on the red carpet at a London gala on May 23 took the focus of the Huffington Post article. The Vogue 100 festival that she attended was held to celebrate 100 years of publication of Vogue UK. Kardashian’s nude Cavalli gown had a completely sheer skirt and beautiful, delicate black embroidery. She accessorized her look with a wide, dark beige belt and a scarf that matched the pattern of black embroidery on the gown.

The Huffington Post pointed out that the dress seemed completely sheer from top to bottom, and “left very little to the imagination,” yet the genius of Roberto Cavalli resulted in a look that managed to be “elegant and more sophisticated than ever.”

Do Kim Kardashian and her neutral-loving relatives have their proverbial finger on the pulse of the fashion world? Are neutrals going to be huge this summer? What do you think?
