One of the things that Lil Wayne fans love is to learn every detail about his life, but he has been a closed book until recently. This is surprising since he is one of the top rappers in the world. Nevertheless, is there a chance that Lil Wayne will finally tell-all about the people that he calls his family in his new memoirs?
Rolling Stone revealed on July 1 that Lil Wayne is finally releasing his prison journals and allegedly will be talking about the eight months he spent in prison for gun possession charges he was convicted for in 2010.
It will be released on October 11 and is titled Gone ‘Til November: A Journal of Rikers Island.
While Lil Wayne was in jail, his album I Am Not a Human Being was released, and a prison guard detailed for MTV what a day in Lil Wayne’s life was like in Rikers Island.
When it was time for him to leave in November, Vibe reports that he was so high-profile that Lil Wayne “had his Maybach [limousine] come and get him from inside the jail. Once that happened, we all met him at an undisclosed location and that’s where the family was waiting for him. Really, closed off from the outside world.”
One of the first things Lil Wayne did in public after he got out of jail was to celebrate Reginae’s birthday on November 29, according to Box Houston.
Despite this, Lil Wayne is somewhat a man of mystery, and there have been few documentaries made about him that are not about the music business or other celebrities, according to Lil Wayne HQ‘s filmography.
Interestingly, Lil Wayne also had a lot of beefs about the movie Quincy Jones III made about his life called The Carter that was released in 2009. Movie Fone writes in January 2009 that The Carter could be summarized with the following.
“[D]irector Adam Bhala Lough expertly pieces together not just a movie about another well-to-do rapper, but one about a workaholic, a drug addict, a father, an artist and an icon.”
About the documentary, Lil Wayne stated he was suing Quincy Jones for “the director’s ‘scandalous portrayal’ of him in The Carter… [Lil] Wayne also sued over the alleged unauthorized use of his music for the film.” The lawsuit was eventually dismissed in 2012, according to MTV.
On rare occasions, Lil Wayne has talked about people in his family that have died, such as an interview Lil Wayne did on the 10-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina in 2015, according to BET.
Outside of interviews Lil Wayne has done over the years, the only details about Lil Wayne’s life are through other people in his family such as his daughter. Reginae Carter temporarily had her own band and was part of a reality TV series by VH1 around the end of 2014, according to People.
Lil Wayne’s ex-wife and mother of Reginae, Toya Wright, has been part of VH1‘s Love and Hip Hop Atlanta for the past two seasons.
Nevertheless, it appears Lil Wayne is going to be loosening up a bit about his real life behind-the-scenes. For example, it was recently revealed that Lil Wayne will be filming his very first reality TV series for VH1, called Lil Wayne’s House, according to Rap Up.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Lil Wayne might also be planning on opening up more about his love life situation with Christina Milian. If he is on a roll and Christina Milian gets Season 3 of her reality TV series Turned Up on the E! Network renewed, Lil Wayne might even appear on those episodes… if he and Christina Milian patch things up.
Finally, all of this revealing of the real Lil Wayne might be in preparation for his retirement. In September 2013, Lil Wayne told Katie Couric that he was planning on retiring at 35, according to Hot New Hip Hop. Lil Wayne will be turning 34 on September 27, 2016.
Of course, if Lil Wayne fans had their way, they would have Lil Wayne give a 300-page detailed explanation about his “family” Birdman AKA Baby AKA Bryan Williams, owner of Lil Wayne’s record label, Cash Money Records.
On Twitter, a search for “Lil Wayne explain Birdman” reveals fans are especially hungry for details about that “family” relationship, but the saga might need to reach an endpoint first.
Hip Hop DX reveals as late as June 29 that Lil Wayne was still throwing shade at Birdman because of a TV appearance Birdman did that some found to be “highly questionable.”
On July 1, The Boom Box said Birdman addressed his relationship with Lil Wayne and stated the following.
“[W]e went about a year [without talking]… But you know the weirdest… We see each other every day. Me and Wayne, we work right next to each other. That’s my son… At some point, we gonna get together… It ain’t like we enemies… in no kind of way. He’s what I came in the game with and what I wanna leave in the game with.”
About a year ago, Guardian quotes Birdman stating about Lil Wayne that “he’s my son, and I love him.”
