Justin Bieber & Taylor Swift Bumped By Katy Perry For Top Twitter Followers: Who Wins Instagram?

Sorry, Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift, but Katy Perry has dethroned you as the contender for the most followers on Twitter. In doing so, Katy achieved a milestone, achieving 90 million Twitter followers, reported Billboard.

In announcing that Perry is the person with the most followers on Twitter as well as the first to achieve the 90 million mark, Twitter proclaimed it to be time to party.

“It’s party time, @katyperry! With 90 million on the guest list, we’re gonna need a really big dance floor,” tweeted the company.

Katy acknowledged her new status.

“Dang this is tight,” she tweeted in response.

And although the singer proclaimed it “tight,” her KatyCat fans use other expressions to describe their favorite star on Twitter, including “[my] queen, beautiful, [the] best, better [than], amazing and [my] spirit animal.”

As to Perry’s top tweets that got the most re-tweets, they range from a shout-out to One Direction to a Belieber proclamation.

“IF ONE DIRECTION DOESN’T PERFORM ON THE VMA’S I AM GONNA JUMP OFF THIS LEDGE,” tweeted Katy for one of her most re-tweeted posts.

“WE ARE BELIEBERS!” exclaimed Perry in another popular tweet.

And she also offered praise for Demi Lovato.

“The new song Skyscraper by @ddlovato is pure perfection. Her voice is one of the BEST undiscovered beauties. Can’t wait for the full record,” gushed Katy.

As for how Bieber and Swift compare, Justin has 83.9 million followers, while Taylor has attracted 79 million Twitter followers, according to the Daily Mail.

Although Kim Kardashian seems to appear in the headlines frequently, Perry has almost twice as many Twitter followers as the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star, who totals 46.3 million followers.

The singer’s KatyCat fans rejoiced, and one offered up the suggestion that Perry hold a slumber party for 90 million followers. Another proclaimed her to hold the title of “Queen of Twitter.”

Since joining Twitter in February, 2009, Katy has shared almost 7,000 tweets. As for how she planned to celebrate her achievement?

“Every1 else havin a lit Friday night & I’m here examining the nose pore cleaner strip I just peeled off & I must say, nothing can top this,” joked the singer.

Perry is selective about who she follows on Twitter, with the chosen ones including Hillary Clinton, Sam Smith, Iggy Azalea, and the Dalai Lama.

But while Katy currently rules Twitter, who wins for having the most followers on Instagram? It’s someone who also dethroned Taylor Swift but who has the role of her best friend: Selena Gomez, reported USA Today.

Booting her pal Taylor from top spot on Instagram, Selena had 69.4 million Instagram followers at the time she was proclaimed the most followed individual. That total quickly continued to rocket on up.

Dishing on how she felt about the honor, Gomez kept it simple.

“It feels so great,” she summed up.

Selena also expressed her appreciation to her followers, while offering her philosophy on whether the numbers game really matters.

“THANK YOU guys for all the love! So appreciative ALSO: just know that I’m fully aware being most followed isn’t important. It’s how you use your platform. Not how big it is.”

For those curious as to how Selena rather than Taylor, Justin, or Kim became the most followed person on Instagram, Vanity Fair noted that she is selective about how often she posts. Her fans are very involved and adore Gomez.

And in addition, there is the inevitable “Bieber factor,” which although it may annoy her, has added to her intrigue. Some Beliebers follow Selena to track posts that might show a connection to Justin.

In addition to Bieber as a magnet, Gomez has strong friendships with other celebrities, including not just Taylor Swift but also Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt. That has resulted in more followers as well.
