‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13: Premiere Date And Possible Storylines [Spoilers]

It’s official, Grey’s Anatomy fans; Season 13 has a premiere date. Can you believe Grey’s is going on its 13th season already? It seems like only yesterday that fans of the ABC medical drama were being treated to Meredith (played by Ellen Pompeo) getting the shock of her life when she discovered that her one-night stand was her new boss. Now, it’s year’s later, and Meredith Grey is a widow, a mom-of-three, and a renowned surgeon. Where does the time go?

ABC has announced that Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 will be premiering on September 22 at 8 p.m, reports Parent Herald. That means fans only have a few more weeks before getting answers to our burning Grey’s questions. Like, what’s up with Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew) now that they’ve become new parents? April endured a pretty traumatic delivery when she had to undergo an emergency c-section (sans anesthesia) at the hands of disgraced surgeon Dr. Ben Warren (Jason George). At the end of Season 12, April and Jackson seem pretty tight and happy, despite having been divorced at the beginning of April’s pregnancy.

As Parent Herald reports, there are plenty of rumors that Grey’s Anatomy’s April and Jackson could be headed toward reconciliation in Season 13. That is so long as Jackson’s meddling mom, Catherine Avery (Debbie Allen) doesn’t get too involved in the relationship. Fans of Grey’s Anatomy might remember that Catherine has repeatedly intervened in Jackson and April’s relationship (and divorce), and been a serious source of contention between the former couple who were so in love that April left her fiance at the altar to marry Jackson, her first love.

Grey’s Anatomy fans have been largely hoping for a reconciliation between April and Jackson in Season 13, since the couple saw their relationship disintegrate after the death of their newborn son.

Since Grey’s Anatomy is all about the relationship drama, it’s no surprise that Season 13’s premiere is expected to focus on a bunch of relationships. Meredith Grey is the title character in the Shonda Rhimes series, and Season 11 ended with the shocking (and tragic) death of Meredith’s husband (and love interest since Episode 1 of the series), Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). Season 12 largely focused on Meredith’s recovery from the death of the love of her life, and at the end of last season, fans saw Meredith hook up for the first time since Derek’s death.

Who did she hook up with? As Grey’s Anatomy fans know, the show doesn’t really allow for drama-and-complication-free relationships. Mer ended up sleeping with a fellow doctor, Dr. Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson), who has a complicated (and largely unknown) backstory. Fans expect some more detail about Nathan’s past in the Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 premiere.

Reportedly, Meredith’s burgeoning relationship with Riggs will be facing some serious hurdles in Season 13. One of the biggest seems to center around Meredith’s half-sister Maggie (Kelly McCreary), who thinks that Meredith’s new hookup is in love with her.

Perhaps the biggest storyline (and love story) of Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 is the relationship between Owen (Kevin McKidd) and deceased Dr. Derek Shepherd’s little sister, Amelia (Caterina Scorsone). The Grey’s Anatomy Season 12 finale saw Owen and Amelia tie the knot, and there’s a lot of buzz that the (newly) happily married couple might be hearing the pitter patter of little feet during Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy, reports Fashion & Style.

It’s also possible that Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 may feature a reconciliation between Owen and Riggs, whose tumultuous relationship was a major source of contention during Season 12.

Fans of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy will be able to check out the new legal drama Notorious following the show on Thursday nights. Notorious will be followed by How to Get Away with Murder.

What do you think? Are you super stoked for the premiere of Grey’s? Do you think any of the predicted storylines will pan out? Do you trust Shonda Rhimes not to kill off your favorite Grey’s Anatomy characters in Season 13?
