‘Arrow’ Season 5: Stephen Amell Reveals WWE Rival Stardust Will Guest Star, But Fans Still Upset About Black Canary Death

Arrow star Stephen Amell is about to wrestle his WWE rival Stardust, but this time it’s going to happen in Starling City. ComicBook reports that Stardust, real name Cody Rhodes, is scheduled to guest star on an episode of Arrow Season 5.

Amell made the announcement at Heroes & Villains Fanfest in New Jersey on a panel where both he and Rhodes were present.

“Before we get going, we have an announcement,” Amell said near the start of the panel. “We have a new guest star on Arrow this year: Mr. Cody Rhodes. I’m so fired up for this guy; he and I haven’t really had much of a chance to talk about it but we’ve been friends for a little over a year now. I know that Cody has really wanted to get into the acting business. He went to LA, he read for a part, and his deal closed yesterday and the dude is going to be on Arrow and I’m so fired up.”

Cory has the free time to take the part in Arrow Season 5 because the WWE released him in May, a release that Rhodes had asked for.

According to ComicBook, there’s no word on what kind of role Cody Rhodes will play when he joins the Arrow cast, but given the “rivalry” he’s established with Stephen Amell on Twitter and in the WWE ring, odds are that he will play some type of villain. As ComingSoon reports, Rhodes pretty much confirmed that he will play one of Oliver Queen’s antagonists when he said, “You can probably expect Stephen and I to get into another fight.”

Stardust will join a long list of guest stars when Arrow Season 5 premieres in October. ComicBook reports that DC Comics superheroes Vigilante and Wild Dog will be making their TV debuts, so DC fanboys and girls can look forward to that. The Walking Dead star Chad L. Coleman will be playing villain Tobias Church, and Supernatural‘s Madison McLaughlin will play Evelyn Sharp, whose superhero persona is known as Artemis.

There’s also some great news for longtime fans of the show. Colton Haynes will be reprising his role as Roy Harper in Arrow Season 5. Screen Crush reports that Haynes is set to appear on a number of episodes next season. Colton confirmed the news at The Justice Squad convention in France.

“I get to come back on a few episodes of Arrow next year,” he reportedly said.

Colton Haynes was a series regular in Seasons 1 to 3 of Arrow but was bumped down to guest star when he returned briefly in Season 4.

One Arrow cast member who is less likely to return in Season 5 is Katie Cassidy. Cassidy played comic book favorite Black Canary, who was killed off during Arrow Season 4. The death caused an uproar among fans who railed against Arrow producers killing off a beloved DC comic book character.

Arrow Season 4 also left a lot of questions unanswered. During the season finale, Starling City’s team of heroes went their separate ways and now Oliver McQueen is mayor. How will the team regroup to face the villains that are right around the corner? Only time will tell.

According to ComicBook, Arrow Season 5 is scheduled to begin production next week in Vancouver along with The Flash, Supergirl, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
