New ‘Diablo’ Game Divulged Through Blizzard Job Listing

When Diablo III made the jump to consoles, Blizzard likely didn’t know just how big a hit it had on its hands. The company, which has just recently been dealing in console games at all, has gone hard into the Xbox One and PS4, and it looks like they’re going to make yet another chapter in the popular series for consoles in the near future.

A job listing which recently popped up for Blizzard shows the company is apparently looking to make a new Diablo game, and the company is looking for a director for the project. As is the case with most of these kinds of listings, there aren’t any details on what is going to be in the game, but it did lay out what the job is going to call for from the new director.

“Blizzard Entertainment is seeking a game director with outstanding communications skills, proven experience in creative direction, strongability in system design, and a stellar track record of shipping AAA games to lead the Diablo series into the future.” The listing said according to Eurogamer.

There is quite a bit of responsibility that goes into this kind of job from Blizzard. Diablo III director Jay Wilson ended up retiring from the game business altogether once he had finished the game. There isn’t a clear line between Wilson stepping down and the game being made.

It’s possible Wilson left Blizzard because Diablo III was so difficult to make. It’s also possible he left because the launch of the game was famously botched badly. Whatever the reason, the title has been huge for the company since it launched and even more popular since it launched on consoles.

Those who are getting excited about what appears to be Diablo IV should perhaps temper their enthusiasm for seeing this come to fruition anytime soon. Hiring a brand new game director means the production hasn’t even really begun. This isn’t like hiring a writer or someone who can step in and mimic the graphics that have already been put in place by someone else.

Just like in movies or television shows, the director is the person who leads the way when it comes to the storyline and everything Diablo IV would have in store. Geek points out that Blizzard isn’t a company that rushes its titles out.

There’s very little chance Diablo IV is going to be coming out in 2017. The company hasn’t come close to announcing this new project either. This kind of a job listing isn’t something that was necessarily supposed to go public. It wasn’t a secret either, as the firm likely knew this would go public.

Blizzard still hasn’t come forward with confirmation Diablo IV is coming. The firm has kept quiet despite rumblings being all over the net, and it’s now going after someone to take over the job. One has to think there will be more talk about what’s coming when they have their new employee in place before they acknowledge the new project.

It would seem likely the new director will need to put his stamp on Diablo IV before Blizzard starts talking about what’s planned. It’s a safe bet there won’t be any real rollout until at least E3 2017. It’s more likely we won’t see anything planned for the new project until Blizzcon 2017, which is later in the year.

If we do not get a look at Diablo IV until Blizzcon next year, there’s simply no chance we will be getting to play the game for ourselves until 2018. Until then, we’ll have to simply be happy with playing Overwatch over and over again.
