Fourth Of July Post Office Hours 2016: Is There Mail Delivery July 4? UPS And FedEx Delivering Packages On Monday?

Fourth of July celebrations are in full swing this weekend as our nation celebrates the birth of American Independence with fireworks displays, parades, barbecues, and trips to the beach.

Amidst the 4th of July holiday celebrations, some people will have to work and others will use their day off to run errands, causing some confusion over what’s open and what’s closed on Monday. As with the other nine other federal holidays observed in 2016, people do a quick Google search to find out if the U.S. Post Office, UPS, and FedEx are delivering mail, if banks are open, and what the holiday hours for popular retail stores like Target, Walmart, and Costco on Monday, July 4.

Is anything open on Monday? Here’s what you need to know so you can get your errands done and enjoy some well-deserved time off during the holiday weekend.

It’s business as usual during the holiday weekend leading up to Independence Day, with letter carriers delivering mail according to the normal schedule on Friday and Saturday, and scheduled Amazon deliveries will be made on Sunday.

According to the USPS, most postal employees will have Monday off to celebrate the 4th of July holiday, so that means you won’t get any mail, and all post office locations will be closed on the Fourth of July. Normal mail delivery will resume on Tuesday, July 5.

If you have a load of packages to get off to the post office on Monday, you can get them prepped and ready to go out on Tuesday morning by using Click-and-Ship, the U.S. Postal Service’s handy online label printing service.

Waiting for a package from UPS or Fedex? Unless it’s coming by way of FedEx Custom Critical or UPS Holiday and Express Critical service, you’re out of luck until Tuesday. Both delivery companies are closed for the 4th of July holiday on Monday, with the exception of the packages that were shipped using the companies critical delivery services.

Although you won’t get mail delivery on Monday, that doesn’t mean everything will be closed on Independence Day. If you need last-minute food for your holiday cookout, legal fireworks, or are in the mood to go out to eat and hit the 4th of July sales at the mall, you may be in luck. Many stores, restaurants, and even movie theaters will be open regular or limited hours on July 4.

Keep in mind that it’s a federal holiday, so there are just as many closures as there are openings on Monday. Most banks and credit unions will be closed on July 4, although Go Banking Rates states that some U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo locations may be open limited holiday hours. The stock market will be closed for the day, and federal offices, like the IRS and Social Security Administration, will also shut their doors until Tuesday morning.

What about retail stores, restaurants, and mall — will they be open for business on the Fourth of July?

Expect to find many stores open on Monday — it’s a great day to snag a deal on clothing, home furnishings, and supplies for your latest garden or home reno project. Independence Day sales are in full swing at stores like Target, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, TJ Maxx, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Kohl’s, Sears, and many of your favorite mall stores like Victoria’s Secret, American Eagle, and JCPenney.

Before you head out to spend your hard-earned cash, check out a money-saving site like Retail Me Not for the latest coupons and offers for your favorite stores.

If you’re looking for consumer-approved fireworks, there are roadside tents and pop-up stores set up in just about every state this weekend. Walmart also has a decent selection of sparklers, roman candles, and firecrackers available in many of the stores across the nation.

Need a bite to eat while you’re out shopping? If you’re not hosting a cookout, you will find plenty of chain restaurants open on July 4, including Olive Garden, Applebee’s, TGI Friday’s, and Cracker Barrel, but always call ahead for holiday hours so you don’t waste a trip.
