Johnny Depp was looking spiffy, slim, and somber recently as he spent time honoring his deceased mother, who died just days prior to the divorce filing and abuse allegations from his estranged wife, Amber Heard. His children were among the family and friends with the 53-year-old actor, reported Yahoo Celebrity.
Depp sported a golden tan and was decked out in jewelry, a boyish blazer, and a new haircut. His son Jack, 14, and daughter Lily-Rose, 17, were with him at Ago restaurant in West Hollywood, California.
Johnny’s mother, Betty Sue Palmer, passed away after a long illness on May 20. She was 81, and her son had her name tattooed on his arm. Also celebrating her life were Johnny’s sisters, a housekeeper, and others who knew her.
Trying to get to his car after honoring his deceased mother, the actor was surrounded by paparazzi yelling queries that ranged from whether he and Amber are near a settlement on their divorce to if he had advice on marriage. Only one scream from the crowd, a person yelling love for Depp, received an answer.
“I love you too,” said Johnny.
The volatile divorce began just three days after Depp’s mother died, with Heard filing for divorce. She then made the allegations that he had been abusive during their relationship, and was granted a temporary restraining order.
Amber, 30, is the actor’s second wife. The two met during the filming of the 2011 movie The Rum Diary, tying the knot in February 2015.
Depp has been spending time touring in Europe with his Hollywood Vampires band. Taking a break, the actor visited his private island in the Bahamas and received a visit from his daughter.
Since returning to California, Johnny has been seen at the Comedy Store in Hollywood. He surprised the crowd by hopping onto the stage, beverage in hand, with comedian Mat Edgar.
In his first interview since Heard filed for divorce, Depp did not discuss Heard. The actor dished about topics such as music instead of the abuse allegations.
However, many have come to Johnny’s defense to try to challenge those claims from Amber that Depp is guilty of domestic violence. Among them is his friend and comedian Doug Stanhope. The comedian claims that Heard “manipulated” and “set up” her estranged husband. Amber responded by filing a defamation lawsuit against Stanhope.
In addition to his pal, his former partner and mom of his children, Vanessa Paradis, and former fiancée Winona Ryder have stated that they experienced no abuse during their relationships with Johnny. Lily-Rose also praised her father, turning to social media to proclaim him “the sweetest, most loving person I know.”
The divorce also has taken a toll on Heard, who has reportedly lost 20 pounds from the stress of the ongoing drama, as the Inquisitr noted.
Amber has sought to fight back against those defending Depp. In her defamation lawsuit against comedian Stanhope, she detailed the harm that she experienced as a result of his defense, reported ET.
Stanhope authored a column with the headline “Johnny Depp Is Being Blackmailed by Amber Heard — Here’s How I Know,” published by the Wrap. In response, the actress’ lawsuit claimed that the column “caused and will continue to cause her tremendous harm.”
Heard’s attorney, Charles J. Harder, told ET that asking for the “maximum possible” financial award as a result of the lawsuit, Amber plans to donate all the money to a shelter for domestic abuse.
“Ms. Heard seeks the maximum possible jury award, and will donate 100% of the proceeds from the lawsuit to Chrysalis, a domestic violence shelter in Arizona, in an effort to counter the setback made to women by the defendants’ defamatory article and related wrongful acts.”
In describing the abuse, Amber has alleged that Johnny “hit and kicked” her and also claims that he is “an alcoholic and drug addict.”
