The late Latina superstar, Selena Quintanilla (known as just “Selena”), is set to receive a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame this year, over two decades after her death. Selena is just one of 34 honorees who will each be recognized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the new year.
Latina singer Selena still has a large presence over the music scene today, 21 years after her passing. Selena, a successful recording artist and fashion designer, was just 23-years-old when she was murdered in by the president of her fan club in 1995. Talk about a crazy, stalker fan nightmare. The music community was devastated by her loss and at such a young age when she still had so much talent to share with the world. More than 60,000 attended Selena’s funeral.
This past October, M.A.C. Cosmeticspromoted a Selena-inspired makeup line. M.A.C. creative director James Gager explained the inspiration he got from Selena to create the line.
“Selena’s talent and beauty, inside and out, have left a colorful, meaningful impact in the world that has continued to grow over the last two decades.
“We have heard the passion and enthusiasm from her fans and wholeheartedly agree that her legacy embodies M.A.C’s philosophy. We are so excited to announce a Selena-inspired M.A.C. collection debuting in the latter part of 2016.”
The Latina icon released five Spanish albums. She made one English-language album, “Dreaming of You,” which was released after her death. Time Magazine characterized the young Latina singer after the news of her passing, describing how big of an impact Selena made and what an influence she was to so many people.
“Selena was the embodiment of young, smart, hip Mexican-American youth … a Madonna without the controversy.”
Fans around the world could not have been more excited to hear that the Latina songstress would finally deserve the star-studded recognition that she deserved.
Joining Selena in the talented Walk of Fame class is an assortment of silver screen talent, including Chris Pratt, Ryan Reynolds, and Dwayne Johnson, all who have starred in box office hits this past year.
Fellow Latina beauty, actress, and activist Eva Longoria will be honored for her career.
