‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 – Descent’ Brings Zombie-Roasting Dragons Plus New Map In A Giant Robot Arena

Activision and Treyarch revealed the details for the third Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 DLC on Tuesday. Descent is coming to the PlayStation 4 first in mid-July and it is bringing dragons to the popular Zombies mode along with other zaniness like giant robot fights for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Black Ops 3: Descent will be released to the PlayStation 4 on July 12, 2016. Xbox One and PC owners should expect to receive the map pack approximately one month later per the timed-exclusivity arrangement between Activision and Sony. The pack will cost $15 if purchased separately or free as part of the $50 Season Pass.

PS4 owners that pre-order the Descent DLC or have the Season Pass will receive a dynamic theme of the image at the top this article.

As per usual, there are four new multiplayer maps plus a new Zombies mode in the Descent DLC release. One of the new maps is a remake of the popular “Raid” map from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. It has been re-imagined into a Roman villa setting. That’s not even close to the most outlandish setting, though. There is also a map set on a frozen ancient Viking village and a prison compound that keeps prisoners frozen in cryogenic tubes. Treyarch is going big too with a stadium that is actually a giant robot battle arena.

  • Empire: Treyarch adapts its Black Ops III movement system to the Call of Duty: Black Ops II fan favorite map Raid. The re-imagining of this classic, medium-sized map features an authentic Roman villa that has been “recreated by a modern-day eccentric billionaire,” where a classic map structure mixes with the new gameplay mechanics of Black Ops III.
  • Cryogen: Located far off the coast in the Dead Sea, an isolated compound holds some of the world’s most dangerous criminals in frozen isolation. Sentry towers keep watch over the small map’s circular design as frenetic combat is funneled around the prison’s cryogenic tubes, where opportunities for wall running attacks abound.
  • Berserk: Ancient sentinels from a lost civilization guard the entrance to Berserk, a Viking village frozen in time. Players will fight through blizzards and control the center bridge as they navigate this medium-sized map’s wooden buildings, deadly rocky outcroppings, and tight chokepoints.
  • Rumble: Gamers battle amongst larger-than-life mechanized warriors in Rumble, a stadium where giant robots battle to the roar of the crowd. This medium-sized map funnels high-speed combat to the central arena, where players battle their way through fallen mechs and pyrotechnics.

Zombies is where things get even more interesting for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 – Descent. Players will jump to war-torn Stalingrad Gorod Krovi for an alternate universe survival adventure complete with giant Soviet robots and dragons in addition to the usual zombie fodder.

“Players face-off against a swarm of mechanized zombie infantry and dodge hell-fire from aerial dragon assaults, all in the middle of a raging battle within the remnants of Stalingrad. Gorod Krovi delivers the most exciting Zombies experience yet, filled with horrifying new enemies, exciting new gameplay mechanics and an epic set of Zombie annihilating weapons.”

The mechanics behind the addition of dragons to Zombies is unclear. They are definitely involved in the map somehow and you can also see all four characters riding its back toward the end of the trailer.

The trailer for the Gorod Krovi also shows a multitude of new traps, plus a new Dragon Shield that shoots a green flame, a new dual-wield wonder weapon that shoots green bolts of energy, and a gauntlet that allows players to one punch through zombies. There is also a new floating drone style enemy that is capable of dodging shots taken at it.
