Brandon McCarthy Jokes On Twitter, Showing Positive Signs Despite Brain Injury

Brandon McCarthy is back to joking around with his Twitter followers, a sign that the Oakland A’s pitcher has a positive outlook, despite suffering a serious head injury that left him in life-threatening danger.

McCarthy was beamed in the right side of the head by a hard hit from the bat of the Angels’ Erick Aybar on Wednesday, resulting in an epidural hemorrhage, brain contusion, and skull fracture, reports Fox Sports.

But the Athletics’ pitcher broke his Twitter silence last night, by commenting:

“Crazy about this children’s tylenol, can’t believe they give it to kids.”

The pitcher’s wife, Amanda, has been constantly on Twitter since the Wednesday evening scare, tweeting her thank yous to well-wishers and updates about her husband’s condition at the Bay Area hospital.

Earlier this evening, Amanda also tweeted a picture of McCarthy’s jersey hanging in the A’s dugout, a sign of her husband’s noticeable absence to the A’s bullpen.

On Saturday afternoon, Brandon McCarthy seemed to be in a joking mood as he wrote:

“The good news in all of this, is that I set up my fantasy lineups beforehand. So there shall be no excuses at this point.”

The comment resulted in a score of comments from the baseball player’s followers, all thanking him for his humor, and wishing him a speedy recovery.

McCarthy’s lighthearted comments come one day after the A’s athletic trainer Nick Paparesta stated that the pitcher is still in a “life-threatening” situation, according to The Washington Post. Paparesta stated:

“I’d give him one more day. I think with any head injury, you need to be cautious, and that’s where we are. But the progress has been great, and we’re all very excited about it.”

Paparesta was encouraged when he was asked about Brandon McCarthy’s Twitter postings, saying that he thought “it was great. As you can tell they are his thoughts, and that’s important.”
