A 42-year-old mother, Christy Sheats, killed her two daughters during a “family dispute” that spilled into the streets of a residential neighborhood on Friday in Fulshear, Texas. After killing the two daughters, Christy Sheats refused to drop her pistol and police fired on the mother, killing her at the scene.
The Daily Mail reports that 42-year-old Christy Sheats killed her two daughters, 17-year-old Madison Sheats and 22-year-old Taylor Sheats, during a domestic disturbance in which she pulled out a gun and fired on the two young women. Police responded to a call about a domestic dispute in a residential neighborhood in Fulshear, Texas, where they found the two girls laying in the yard in front of the house and Christy brandishing a pistol. The responding officers say that the mother refused to drop her weapon and the police were forced to fire. Christy would die from the gunshot wounds inflicted by the police officer.
The Houston Chronicle reports that Christy’s husband and the father of the two daughters was home at the time of the altercation but sustained no injuries. Despite a lack of physical injuries, the father was taken to the hospital due to the emotional distress inflicted by witnessing the loss of his daughters and wife.
Police say they are still trying to piece together exactly what happened leading up to the deaths but say that it was a “family argument” that turned into a shooting.
“It was a family argument that turned into a shooting. But we’re still trying to put the pieces together.”
The police have revealed that they have been called to the Sheats residence on numerous occasions, but at this time they claim they do not know the reasons for each call. If something was wrong at the Sheats home, neighbors and those in the community said they had no idea. One neighbor told KHOU that he was in complete shock over the shooting, noting that they were a “nice, and very good family.” Another neighbor who also attended high school with the daughters says that there were no signs that something like this would happen, saying they never showed “any kind of thing that was wrong with them whatsoever.”
“It’s crazy. The neighborhood has never seen this kind of thing before. It’s always quiet. This is surprising. They never showed any kind of thing that was wrong with them whatsoever.”
Christy’s Facebook page also seemed normal, with the mother recently posting a tribute to her two daughters on Facebook, noting they were “amazing, sweet, kind, beautiful, intelligent girls” and that she loved and treasured them more than they would ever know.
Multiple other posts are featured of Taylor and Madison on Christy’s Facebook page in which she brags on her daughters. One image shows Christy “purse shopping” with Taylor as they Snapchat. Another shows Taylor posing in a vehicle with her mother.
Police say the investigation into the murders and officer-involved shooting are still underway, but that all evidence suggests it was a domestic despite turned murder. As the father of the daughters recovers from the emotional distress of the situation, officers will have the chance to question him more thoroughly about what transpired leading up to the shooting.
What do you think could have happened in the Sheats home to allow the situation to escalate to the point that a mother would kill her only two daughters?
