Donald Trump Likens Brexit To His Own Presidential Campaign

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is sharing his opinions on the United Kingdom’s historic decision this week to exit from the European Union. The British exit, more popularly known as Brexit, which was put to the vote on June 23, reports the Express, has sent shock waves around the world. The vote was very close, with only the slightest majority winning, in a vote of 48 percent against Brexit, and 52 percent for the exit. It is important to note that although Scotland voted against Brexit by 62 percent, the measure still went through.

In another stunning decision, British Prime Minister David Cameron resigned from his post, saying he was not the man to lead the country into the future on these circumstances. Cameron was not a backer of Brexit.

“I will do everything I can as Prime Minister to steady the ship over the coming weeks and months. But I do not think it would be right for me to try to be the captain that steers our country to its next destination.”

According to NPR, Donald Trump welcomes the news, likening the United Kingdom’s decision to “take back their independence” to the Trump presidential campaign, in which Donald Trump plans to “Make America Great Again.” Donald Trump believes this movement to regain control of countries that have veered off course is not contained to the United States and the United Kingdom. In Donald Trump’s opinion, the likelihood that other countries will follow suit is a real possibility.

“I think I see a big parallel. I think people really see a big parallel — a lot of people are talking about that. And not only the United States, but other countries. People want to take their country back.”

The United Kingdom, like the United States, has seen some problems regarding the economy and the influx of immigrants seeking relief from the violence and tyranny of their own countries. This topic is dear to the heart of Donald Trump, as increasing the protection at our borders is one of the main points involved in the Donald Trump presidential campaign.

“People want to see borders. They don’t necessarily want people pouring into their country that they don’t know who they are and where they come from.”

Donald Trump applauds Cameron’s honesty in resigning as Prime Minister, saying his only fault was mistaking the way his country would vote.

“He was wrong on this. He didn’t get the mood of his country right. He was surprised. I think he was very surprised to see what happened, but he is a good man and he felt that way – and probably did the right thing.”

As a result of the British exit from the European Union, the pound has dropped drastically, hitting a low that has not been seen since 1985 and prompting panic from citizens. Donald Trump does not believe the plunge of the pound is necessarily a bad thing, and in the long run, could prove to be a positive thing.

“Look if the pound goes down, they’re gonna do more business. You know, when the pound goes down, more people are gonna come to Turnberry, frankly, and the pound has gone down, and let’s see what the impact of that is.”

“I think it could very well turn out to be a positive. Nobody really knows; you’ll know in about five years; you’ll be able to analyze it.”

Donald Trump says that the United Kingdom has been our ally, and there is no reason that should change. Pledging his support for the U.K., Donald Trump states, if he becomes the United States president, nothing will change on that quarter.

“I think zero will change on that score. There’s never been a better ally.”
