‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 6 Finale Spoilers — Catelyn Stark Returns As Lady Stoneheart?

Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley), aka Lady Stoneheart, has yet to make an appearance on Game of Thrones.

While everyone prepares for the Season 6 finale, will the show revive the fan favorite character from the books?

According to TV Guide, Catelyn is resurrected when Beric Dondarrion (Richard Dormer) ends his life. Catelyn then takes up the mantle of Lady Stoneheart and becomes the head honcho of the Brotherhood Without Banners.

The best part of Catelyn’s new persona is her desire to avenge anyone who played a part in the Red Wedding.

That being said, Beric is still alive and well on the show. With that in mind, the show might introduce her in an unexpected way.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have referenced Catelyn throughout Season 6. They also re-introduced members of the Brotherhood and Walder Frey (David Bradley), clearly setting things up for a Lady Stoneheart cameo.

Keeping Beric alive might be a trick to throw fans off the trail.

Prior to the premiere of Season 6, Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) answered a Two Truths and a Lie game with Yahoo. During the chat, she stated that Ramsay (Iwan Rheon) will die, Arya will kill off three people on her list, and Lady Stoneheart will appear.

With Ramsay now dead, either Arya is going to go on a crazy killing spree or Lady Stoneheart will finally emerge during the Game of Thrones finale.

Arya’s list includes the Hound (Rory McCann), Thoros (Paul Kaye) and Beric, all of whom are currently in the same location. However, it isn’t likely that the show would kill off the Hound right after bringing him back.

Apart from the Hound and the Brotherhood, Arya could kill off Cersei Lannister, Ilyn Payne, and The Mountain. In order to accomplish this, Arya would have to take a page out of the Mad King’s book and burn King’s Landing to the ground.

According to Digital Spy, the Mad King, also referred to Aerys II Targaryen, kept a stockpile of wildfire underneath the famed city. Aerys planned on using the wildfire to kill everyone in the city but was stopped after Jamie Lannister put a sword through his back.

Will Arya sneak into King’s Landing, find the wildfire and set it off?

At this point, it doesn’t seem likely that Arya would kill off an entire city just to check three people off her list.

If Arya doesn’t kill three people on her list, then Turner’s other truth will come about.

To complicate matters, Maisie Williams, who plays Arya, also played the Two Truths and a Lie game with Yahoo.

Williams said that Arya will return to Westeros, Arya has been in the trailer more times than people know, and Arya will not kill anyone on her list.

The first statement appears true, especially since Arya’s time in Braavos is wrapped up. Also, the second statement is true because Arya was featured in the trailer in a few unrecognizable scenes.

That means the third statement is probably false, which matches up nicely with Turner’s comments.

It also adds more credence to a Lady Stoneheart cameo in the finale.

According to Polygon, however, there are two problems with bringing Catelyn back.

For starters, Lem Lemoncloak is dead and gone. In the books, Lem is part of the Brotherhood after Lady Stoneheart becomes the leader.

Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time the series deviated from the books.

The second issue involves the state of Catelyn’s body. It has been a long time since she died at the Red Wedding, and her body would have decomposed significantly by now.

The Season 6 finale of Game of Thrones airs Sunday night on HBO.
