British Child Abuser Waterboarded Infant

A convicted child abuser has been sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment because of the horrifying crimes he committed against an infant. The Hucknall Dispatch reports that Earld Jason Romans waterboarded a baby in an incident of abuse that nearly killed the helpless infant. That’s not the only thing he did to his little victim, which is why he’ll be spending more than a decade behind bars — but is the punishment fitting to the crimes?

The Mirror reports that the 29-year-old British man assaulted the baby (whose age hasn’t been clarified in any readily accessible media reports) on November 27, 2015. The infant was rushed to the hospital after paramedics were called to a residence in Nottinghamshire on the day of the incident. Clinging to life, the helpless victim was put in the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital, where it was discovered that the baby had been a victim of extreme child abuse.

The child was incredibly fortunate to survive the ordeal, but medical examiners say that the infant had been waterboarded by the child abuser. They said in detailed reports that the infant had consumed approximately five pints of water during the incident, which could have drowned him or her (the gender has not been identified in reports). On top of being waterboarded, the helpless baby had also been battered, and exhibited several injuries. Examiners noted that “around 40 marks” were present on the infant at the time of the 2015 incident. It took a long time for the infant to recover, over a span of time that hospital staff worried that he wouldn’t pull through after the level of abuse he had suffered.

Sadly, this isn’t the first time a child has been waterboarded as a form of child abuse. Earlier this year, a Texas couple was arrested after authorities discovered that they had been brutally abusing a child. Not only did they allegedly waterboard and beat the child, but they are accused of “binding” his genitals to the point of pain. The child’s age hasn’t been reported, but he reportedly has a mental disability, which makes the details of his alleged abuse all the more tragic.

In 2015, a Michigan man was arrested on allegations that he waterboarded his girlfriend’s 5-year-old son. The 30-year-old Mt. Morris man allegedly used this torture method to punish the child after he came home from school with a rip in his backpack.

In 2014, a Delaware doctor was sentenced to at least three years of imprisonment after he was convicted of waterboarding his 11-year-old stepdaughter. The young girl was also deprived of food and punished in other extreme fashions over the course of the abuse she suffered. Her mother, 41-year-old Pauline Morse, was also convicted in association with this case.

Child abuser Earld Jason Romans will now have to spend the next 13 years of his life in prison for what he did, and he’s quite lucky the child survived, otherwise he’d be put away for an even longer span of time. Do you think 13 years of imprisonment is a strict enough punishment for someone who is convicted of waterboarding and beating an infant?
