Robin Roberts Delays Bone Marrow Transplant To Attend Mother’s Funeral

Robin Roberts has delayed her bone marrow transplant in order to attend her mother’s funeral. Lucimarian Tolliver Roberts passed away in Mississippi on Friday and hundreds attended her funeral on Thursday, including Roberts.

The Good Morning America anchor is on medical leave while she receives her bone marrow transplant for MDS, reports E! Online.

Roberts confirmed yesterday that she has delayed her treatment regimen by one week, in order to be present for the Roberts matriarch’s funeral. Roberts wrote on her GMA blog Thursday that:

“Today I was supposed to be admitted to the hospital…instead I am here in Mississippi standing proudly with my family as we honor our beloved mother and celebrate her life. When I return to NYC and walk through those hospital doors next week momma will be right there with me. Light, love and blessings to all.”

Robin Roberts began her medical leave one day early in order to drive with her sister (her bone marrow donor) to Mississippi. The Daily Mail notes that Robin and her sister Sally-Ann rushed from New York to Mississippi last Thursday, and were able to be by their mother’s side when she passed away last Friday morning. Robin wrote that:

“My family tells me momma gave me one final gift as her last act. She waited for me to get home on Thursday to say goodbye. She was there when I took my first breath and what a privilege to hold her sweet hand when she took her last breath.”

Robin Roberts will return to New York City for her bone marrow transplant next week, adding that,”When I return to NYC and walk through those hospital doors next week momma will be right there with me.”
