Lynda Carter Joins ‘Supergirl’ Season 2 As The President Of The United States

Lynda Carter, best known for playing the role of Wonder Woman, will be appearing in Season 2 of Supergirl, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

Supergirl Season 1 featured a few actors who played comic book characters in the past, including Dean Cain who played Superman in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Laura Vandervoort who appeared in Smallville. Now, Supergirl has added Lynda Carter to the roster, and she will be playing the role of the President of the United States in Season 2.

According to the producers of Supergirl, Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti, they had wanted to include the 64-year-old Lynda Carter in the show since Season 1, but Carter’s schedule got in the way. Executive producer Ali Adler did an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in April, and when asked about Lynda Carter, the producer said, “It would be incredible to have her on the show, a true honor, but it depends on her schedule.”

Now, it seems that Lynda Carter’s schedule has opened up, as she confirmed that she will be joining Supergirl‘s Season 2. The actress retweeted articles from online publications announcing her new TV role.

In an email sent to The Washington Post, Lynda Carter said that she is thrilled to be a part of Supergirl‘s second season.

“I’m thrilled to become the president without having to campaign or win delegates. To join a great show with another strong female superhero was truly impossible to resist.”

DC Comics reports that Lynda Carter’s role as the president will be a recurring one, and she is scheduled to make her debut appearance in Supergirl Season 2 Episode 3.

Lynda Carter rose to fame after she won Miss World USA in 1972. After her win, she took acting classes and had a few appearances in television shows such as Cos, Starsky and Hutch, and Nakia. Her acting career skyrocketed when she got the starring role in Wonder Woman, playing Wonder Woman/Diana Price. Wonder Woman had three seasons and aired from 1975 to 1979.

Lynda Carter’s most recent TV appearances include playing herself in an episode of Two and a Half Men, appearing in two episodes of Law & Order and Law & Order:Special Victims Unit, and playing Moira Sullivan in one episode of Smallville.

Season 1 of Supergirl aired on CBS, and Season 2 will air on CW. Lynda Carter is not the only one that has been announced to appear in Season 2. According to a Screen Crush reports, Teen Wolf‘s Tyler Hoechlin has been officially cast in the role of Superman in two episodes of Supergirl’s upcoming season. Kreisberg is excited about the casting.

“Greg and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”

As another Screen Crush report notes, more characters for the Season 2 of Supergirl will be added, including Maggie Sawyer from the DC police and Lena, Lex Luthor’s sister. The actors who will be playing the said roles are have not yet been announced. Currently, Supergirl is on a break and will be back for Season 2 on October 10 on CW.
