Waffles. How many different ways can you make a delicious waffle?
In most cases, when it comes to the standard waffle, most people would agree that there is only one way to make them from scratch. Keep in mind that most consumers depend on waffles that have already been made and are essentially frozen, packaged and stored in a freezer for future consumption. Some of the most popular waffles on the market are ones that you can just pop inside of a toaster for a few moments and wait for your meal to pop out — ready and waiting to be decorated with culinary condiments, served and enjoyed.
This viral video, which was posted online earlier this week by the popular YouTube channel Tasty, features four delicious waffle recipes that essentially put a different spin on the longtime breakfast menu favorite.
For example, when is the last time that you enjoyed a pizza waffle? According to the recipe provided by Tasty, all you need to make pizza waffles is 12 slices of pepperoni, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese, 4 tablespoons of marinara sauce and — perhaps the most important ingredient — homemade pizza dough. If you do not have homemade pizza dough available, a 14-ounce tube of pizza dough is a solid alternative.
After slicing the pizza dough into eight equal pieces, each piece needs to be pressed flat. Four pieces of the sliced dough will then be placed into the greased, preheated waffle iron. Spread a single tablespoon of marinara, one-fourth cup of mozzarella cheese and three slices of pepperoni on each dough piece. Use the four remaining slices of dough to top it off and seal it. After it cooks for several minutes, check to make sure that the pizza waffle is golden brown. If that is the case, then it is ready to serve!
A similar approach to making pizza waffles was shared on Twitter.
The delicious pizza waffle is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the amazing recipes that are featured in this viral YouTube video.
- Pizza waffles
- Breakfast panini waffles
- Cinnamon roll waffles
- Brownie waffle sundae
The names of each dish along with a complete list of recipe details were found within the lengthy video description on YouTube.
According to Food and Travel Fun, the very first waffle recipe dates back over six centuries ago to the 14th century. The recipe was reportedly found within a manuscript titled Le Menagier de Paris. According to the report, the waffle recipe was written by a husband who wanted his spouse to “have the best instructions in terms of cooking tasty waffles.”
Back in the Middle Ages, the original waffles were cooked with two metal plates that each had wooden handles. When you think of how far the waffle (and waffle-making process in general) has come over the years, it does make you think about the amazing stories that may exist for many other popular breakfast menu options.

When you pay attention to the creative culinary side of this now-viral video, however, another undeniable fact emerges to the surface. Waffles are definitely not exclusively for breakfast menus. With the exception of the breakfast panini waffles, none of the four waffle recipes featured in this particular video would make good choices for a breakfast plate. Odds are that cinnamon rolls, brownies, and pizza would only make solid breakfast choices to a young child that enjoys the concept of eating junk food all day, every day.
Whether or not you personally decide to try one (or all) of the waffle recipes featured in this video is obviously up to you. However, the fact that you can do so much more with the traditional waffle than you may have initially thought may play a big role in the popularity of this now-viral video.
