Theo James And Shailene Woodley Get Political With Bernie Sanders And Refugee Crisis

It has been a while that Theo James and Shailene Woodley parted ways after the latest Divergent movie got released. But it looks like their common interest spans much longer than their onscreen chemistry.

Ever since wrapping Allegiant, the latest movie in the Divergent series, both Theo James and Shailene Woodley got down and political. While the 31-year-old actor is vying for the role of James Bond in the next 007 movie, he also has been paying attention to the ongoing refugee crisis.

Being half Greek meant that Theo felt more invested in the issues and how the Greek government as well as the international community were responding to the crisis.

Theo James travelled to Greece on his first visit with UNHCR ahead of World Refugee Day,” reports UNHCR. “Theo has a very personal story that connects him to the refugee situation. His grandfather, Dr. Nicholas Taptiklis, fled Greece during the Second World War, making his way by boat and then overland through Turkey to Damascus, Syria.”

According to the report, Theo met with refugee families in Northern Greece as well as in other ports.

“The mission with UNHCR felt deeply personal but more importantly it was eye-opening,” he said in the interview. “We are all aware of how complex and politically charged the refugee crisis is. But to meet these families, these fathers and mothers struggling in the midst of one of the greatest humanitarian crises since the Second World War, was beyond anything I had expected. These are people like you and me fleeing their country out of total necessity.”

Despite the fact that he is taking his time off to also invest in his relationship with his girlfriend Ruth Kearney, it looks like Theo James is genuinely interested in the refugee crisis to help other people gain a better understanding of it.

Shailene Woodley has also been getting more and more political, not in Europe, but in her own country. From the very beginning of the Democratic primaries, she has been a strong supporter of Bernie Sanders and has been using her social media account to promote the Democratic presidential candidate.

The 24-year-old actress only just got on Instagram, but she has been using it mainly to show her support for Bernie Sanders, who have lost California despite his efforts to stay relevant.

In fact, she has been doing much more than just posting about Bernie. She also hosted a potluck in her hometown to make sure that her state understands his significance in American politics.

“Actress Shailene Woodley will be stumping for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders during a ‘Potluck For Bernie’ event Tuesday night in her hometown of Simi Valley,” reports Ventura County Star. “Woodley has been traveling up and down the coast in an RV with fellow actors Rosario Dawson and Kendrick Sampson in support of the presidential candidate.”

She didn’t forget to Instagram about it.

Maybe the reason that their chemistry in Divergent series was so undeniable was because of their political leaning. Having that as a common ground must have helped the actors see something in each other that they could truly respect and fall in love with.

In fact, he went as far to reveal that “we know most of each other’s darkest secrets,” according to PopSugar.

“As your own person goes through the different changes of your life, they end up informing the character you play and the mistakes you’ve made or the lessons you’ve learned,” he said, according to Essential Homme. “I think it was three years ago when I started Divergent. I definitely feel like a different person from that time, so I think Four must change too.”

Sounds like time spent with Shailene has helped him see how his character must change during the course of the series.
