Noor Salman, Orlando Shooter’s Wife, Could Be Charged

The wife of the man behind the devastating shooting in Orlando on June 12, Noor Salman, might well be charged for her role. Noor Salman, the shooter’s second wife, has apparently admitted she had prior knowledge of the Pulse nightclub attack which killed 49, according to the Telegraph.

United States Senator Angus King, who is part of the Senate Intelligence Committee and was briefed on the status of the investigation into the Orlando shooting on June 14, told CNN that Noor Salman seemed to have more knowledge than might have originally been realized about the deadly nightclub attack.

“She definitely is, I guess you would say, a person of interest right now and appears to be cooperating and can provide us with some important information,” he said.

According to the LA Times, if enough evidence demonstrates that Noor Salman may have somehow helped the Orlando shooter with the attack, she could face criminal charges for aiding and abetting. There are apparently questions about whether or not she helped him plan the attack or whether she somehow had prior knowledge of the attack, but as King said, Noor Salman has been quite cooperative in talking with police and the FBI.

New York Daily News added that Noor Salman may have also attempted to talk her husband out of the attack.

Some on social media have suggested that her citizenship should be revoked, in addition to posting more hateful comments that will not be posted in this article. Rather, it has also been made clear that Noor Salman really has been a relatively mysterious figure in the world of the Orlando shooter.

New York Daily News writes that, “Few details have emerged about Salman and her marriage to Mateen. Salman grew up in the San Francisco Bay area and lived in a Chicago suburb before moving into Mateen’s Fort Pierce home in 2012. But after the two were married, he kept her from going back home.”

Since the worst mass shooting in United States history, Noor Salman has attempted to keep her face shielded from the media’s watchful eye, and has even attempted to keep her son’s face out of print. Her son, just 3 years old, was seen hiding his own face from view as he and his mother drove away from their apartment.

According to 9 News, Noor Salman has also told neighbors that the Orlando shooter had her drive him to Pulse about a week before the shooting, which means that she could definitely face criminal charges. A grand jury has currently been convened to determine whether or not there is sufficient evidence to find her responsible for aiding and abetting the Orlando attacks.

Federal investigators have also said that the Orlando shooter was likely self-radicalized, although he apparently professed loyalty to a range of extremist groups when he made a 911 call during the attack. As a result of her alleged role in the attacks, Noor Salman could be charged with aiding and abetting and, according to the Telegraph, accessory to 49 counts of murder and 53 counts of attempted murder, in addition to failing to notify law enforcement of the attack.

New York Daily News also reports that during his marriage to Noor Salman, as well as during his first marriage, the Orlando shooter frequented Pulse, and had been escorted from the club while completely intoxicated a few times. Many who are regulars at Pulse expressed a great deal of shock that the man that they had seen frequenting the club prior to the June 12 attack was the one responsible for the worst mass shooting in United States history.

For now, though, it is Noor Salman who is bearing the brunt of media scrutiny due to her alleged role in her late husband’s plans.
