Kim Kardashian’s Weight Loss: ‘KUWTK’ Star Tells How She Lost 60 Pounds

In some ways, Kim Kardashian is just like many other recent mommies, especially when it comes to body insecurities.

For example, after her son, Saint West, was born in December, Kardashian told People that she looked in the mirror and felt like her body was never going to be the same.

“There was a moment after when my body was mush. I felt like Gumby. There was definitely a moment when I looked in the mirror and I was like, ‘I am never going to be the same.'”

Surely, it’s a feeling to which many a recent mother can relate, but not everyone can snap back into shape quite as quickly as Kim K is able to. In fact, a report from WebMD indicates that in order to be healthy, the average woman should take up to a year to get back into pre-baby shape.

According to Dr. Laura Riley, a high-risk pregnancy expert from Massachusetts General Hospital, the average woman should take her time getting back into shape for two reasons. First, most women gain more weight than celebrities do during pregnancy, and second, most women don’t have the same resources available.

“We don’t have the kind of lifestyle that would allow for that kind of quick loss — and the sooner women recognize that, the better they will feel about themselves,” Riley told WebMD. “They have resources that the rest of us don’t have after baby is born.”

The first of Riley’s claims may not be true in the instance of Kim Kardashian, who faced health complications and reportedly gained up to 70 pounds while she was pregnant with Saint. The second of Riley’s claims — that celebrities have additional resources available — does seem to be true in the case of Kardashian.

In a recent interview with People, Kardashian admitted to having the help of trainer Don Brooks, who she said she works out with at 6 a.m. every day whenever she’s home. Additionally, Kardashian follows what she calls a “militant” diet consisting of 1,800 calories of vegetables and proteins, and Kardashian makes sure she drinks at least 64 ounces of water each day, she said. Kim adheres to the Atkins 40 plan and is an ambassador for the Atkins brand.

The 35-year-old Keeping Up with the Kardashians star admitted that her “butt and her hips are the last to go,” but said that she’s continuing on with her plan in an effort to reach her pre-baby weight of 120 pounds.

In her most recent social media update, Kardashian showed a photo of her scale, which read 132 pounds. In the photo, which she posted to Snapchat, Kardashian wrote “12 pounds to 2010 Kim.”

While Kardashian said that she’s been working hard to get back into pre-baby shape, she acknowledged to People that it’s challenging to work off the weight and make changes to her body.

“Anyone who has had kids knows your body changes and it’s hard to get your body back in shape. It takes so much determination and mental and physical power and energy.”

Kardashian added, “After having two kids, and being able to get in shape and still feel good about myself, I’ve never felt better. I worked my ass off, I’ve altered my life and I’m proud of that.”

What do you think of Kim Kardashian’s weight loss after the birth of Saint West? Do you think she’s setting a healthy example for women everywhere?
