New Trailer For ‘Pete’s Dragon’ Remake Shows A Lot More Of Elliott As He Takes To The Sky

In a world of remakes and reboots, Disney is breathing new life (and some fire) into a big release coming later this summer. A brand new trailer has been released for Disney’s Pete’s Dragon, and there is finally a lot more shown of the lovable big green creature known as Elliott. He was first seen as an animated creature in the 1977 original, which also starred live actors, but he’s come a long way since then.

There are less than two months until Pete’s Dragon lands in theaters, and some have not been totally on board with this remake. The original classic from 40 years ago is one that is still a favorite of so many people, with its amazing music and great emotion.

Entertainment Weekly has brought attention to a brand new trailer for Pete’s Dragon, and there is finally a lot more seen in this one. Previous teasers have only given slight or quick glimpses of Elliott. While more pictures have emerged of him online, this trailer allows everyone to see him in action and interacting with the cast.

Those that loved the original film will be happy to see that Elliott’s wings may be much bigger in this new version, but they do have a bit of a pink tint to them.

While there are some differences in this story as opposed to Disney’s original, the synopsis shows that it tells almost the same tale.

“For years, old wood-carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales … until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon.”

One of the biggest issues that purists have had is the different look of Elliott and how he’s changed so much from the original 1977 film. In that version of Pete’s Dragon, Elliott was animated and had pink scales, pink hair, and pink wings. Some also feel that he was a lot more friendly looking, but there can be a big difference between animated and real-looking CGI.

This new trailer may finally give fans the opportunity to see that Disney has left a lot of the original feeling of Elliott in this new creation, even though he looks different. Lovers of the first Pete’s Dragon will recognize the “snoring” sound of Elliott early in the trailer is exactly the same noise he made in 1977.

On August 12, Pete’s Dragon will hit theaters with a great cast that includes Bryce Dallas Howard, Robert Redford, Karl Urban, and so many more. This isn’t young Oakes Fegley’s first work, but taking the role of Pete could truly build up his work schedule in a hurry.

Pete’s Dragon is just the latest in a long line of “re-imagined” films from Disney as they’ve seen great success with live-action versions of Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and Maleficent with many others on the way. Disney is hoping that new technology and a different look can bring the love, charm, and excitement of Elliott the dragon to a new generation of audiences and have them love him just as much as the original.
