‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7 Filming Update: First Look At The Sanctuary, Home Base Of The Saviors [Spoilers]

The Walking Dead Season 7 filming is underway, but interestingly, there is one set that is still being constructed. According to one popular TWD spoiler page, it is the Sanctuary, which is home base to the Saviors. Get a look at the Sanctuary and find out how it compares to the comic books.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, a recent TWD filming update included Dwight (Austin Amelio) riding Daryl Dixon’s (Norman Reedus) motorcycle. There is a theory that Negan and the Saviors kidnap Daryl and take him to the Sanctuary. Other filming news for The Walking Dead that was reported includes smoke coming from Alexandria and a lot of Saviors in a truck, which makes some viewers believe that Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) will try to kill Negan, just like in The Walking Dead comic books.

The latest information comes from The Spoiling Dead Fans. The spoiler Facebook page posted two photos of what appears to be the entrance to the Sanctuary. In The Walking Dead comic books, the Sanctuary is enormous, so the entire thing probably won’t be constructed, just the entrance and a few other critical pieces. As TSDF noted, viewers might even see some CGI when Season 7 of The Walking Dead airs episodes featuring the Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary was introduced in issue 104 of The Walking Dead comic books. As mentioned before, it is the home of Negan and the Saviors. The Sanctuary was formerly a factory and it is enclosed by a chain link fence. There is also a stone barricade and a wall of walkers.

The Sanctuary won’t be the only new location TWD fans will see in The Walking Dead Season 7. Besides Alexandria and the Hilltop Colony, which was introduced last season, expect to meet The Kingdom. If the television series follows the comics, then all three communities will band together to defeat Negan and the Saviors. However, The Walking Dead villain won’t be killed. Instead, Negan will be kept prisoner, but that has its own complications.

In The Walking Dead comic books, there are quite a few scenes with Negan at the Sanctuary. Readers got to understand the leader, and it seems likely this will be the case with the TV show, too. In an interview, creator Robert Kirkman said Negan was going to be an “ever-present, constant threat.”

“I don’t want to worry people, but Negan is going to be an ever-present, constant threat that is going to change everything moving forward,” Robert Kirkman told UpRoxx. “And maybe I’ve said things like that before, but I promise you, Negan is going to be different. Season 7 is going to be really cool. I couldn’t be more excited about it.”

During a Reddit AMA for Outcast, Kirkman defended The Walking Dead Season 6 finale cliffhanger by saying fans were going to see both halves of the story in Season 7. Jeffrey Dean Morgan seemed to confirm this in his own interview.

“I didn’t know it was going to be a cliffhanger until I watched the show – that was how it was done in my world. I don’t know if any of the cast knew how exactly it was going to end, which caused a lot of the uncertainty and emotion to be going on,” Jeffrey Dean Morgan told Variety. “That being said, in talking to Scott and Robert last night, I think their explanation [was] that that was the end of the story for that season, and that is that Rick has lost control, and there’s Negan, and Negan has all the control and I think that’s where they wanted to end the story — and it’s not about the death of that person … the death of the person is gonna kick off 7, and Season 7 will be a big part of who is on the receiving end of Lucille.”

The Walking Dead Season 7 premieres on AMC in fall 2016.
