Orlando Pulse Shooting: JetBlue Is Providing Free Flights To Orlando For Families Of Shooting Victims

JetBlue has announced the offer of free flights to and from Orlando for immediate family members and domestic partners of victims of the Orlando Pulse shooting on their blog. JetBlue also made the announcement on Twitter including a banner with the hashtag #WeStandWithOrlando.

It was on Sunday morning that 49 people were killed and at least another 53 were injured during the shooting in Orlando at Pulse, a gay night club. According to AdWeek, the gunman had pledged his allegiance to ISIS before walking into Pulse and committing one of the deadliest mass shootings in the United States, and one of the worst terrorist attacks since 9/11.

“Our hearts are with the victims, their families and friends and the Orlando community. This weekend’s events are felt by all of our 19,000 crewmembers, many of whom live in, work from and travel through Orlando—one of our focus cities—at Orlando International Airport, our Orlando Support Center and JetBlue University.”

Snopes did reach out to a representative from JetBlue to confirm whether or not the offer to supply free flights to and from Orlando for immediate family members and domestic partners of victims was legit. According to Snopes, the representative did report the offer was true and redirected them to the blog for more information.

It didn’t take long for users to take to Twitter to praise JetBlue for offering free flights to immediate family members and domestic partners of victims of the Orlando Pulse shooting.

One Twitter user praised JetBlue for coming through again.

A second Twitter user praised JetBlue for “doing it right.”

A third user took to Twitter to beg others to spread word that JetBlue was offering the free seats, so those with immediate loved ones affected by the Orlando Pulse shooting could get to them without having to worry about how they were going to afford a plane ticket:

Immediate family members and domestic partners who are trying to get to Orlando to be with victims of the Pulse shooting can call 1-800-JETBLUE in order to receive details about how to obtain the free seats on existing flights to Orlando.

According to The Points Guy, JetBlue also has put a fee waiver in place for any JetBlue customers who had planned on traveling to or from Orlando, Florida and need to make last minute changes to their travel plans in the wake of the Orlando Pulse shooting. The change and/or cancel fees that JetBlue would normally charge customers is being waived for any customers who had a flight booked to Orlando between Sunday, June 12 and Tues, June 14. Passengers who are taking advantage of this waiver have until Tuesday, June 21 to re-book a new flight without having to pay any additional fees.

In the wake of the Orlando Pulse shooting, JetBlue is not stopping there. They have also announced that the company will be making a charitable donation to support the victims and the family members who were affected by the shooting. The Points Guy went on to report that JetBlue has yet to release any information regarding the charitable donation they will be making in honor of those affected by the shooting.

JetBlue even announced that many of their crew members are from Orlando. They have encouraged any of their crew members (or other employees) affected by the Orlando Pulse shooting to contact JetBlue in order to take advantage of resources the company has available. The Points Guy also reported that JetBlue is currently the only air carrier to make an announcement regarding the Orlando Pulse shooting or to offer any sort of discount to immediate family members and domestic partners who need to get to Orlando to be with their loved ones.
