NBA Rumors: Could The Boston Celtics Acquire Derrick Rose From Chicago Bulls?

Derrick Rose is going to be one of the most talked about names in trade rumors this coming NBA offseason. There is no guarantee that the Chicago Bulls will look to deal him, but he has been mentioned in trade rumors as the 2015-16 season is close to ending. Plenty of teams would have an interest in acquiring Rose, and there is one team in particular that we are going to look at right now.

The Boston Celtics have been searching for a star over the past few seasons, and while Rose has been through a lot of injury problems, he would still be a big step in the right direction for them.

Isaiah Thomas is the current starting point guard in Boston, but Rose could come in and play the shooting guard position comfortably. He would immediately add a scoring punch for the Celtics and could be exactly what the doctor ordered from a leadership standpoint. Boston hasn’t had a leader since Brad Stevens took over and Rose could fill that role.

Throughout the course of the regular season this year, Rose ended up playing in 66 games. He averaged 16.4 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game. Rose shot 42.7 percent from the field overall and knocked down 29.3 percent of his three-point attempts.

At just 27-years-old, no potential trade suitor can allow Rose’s injury history to deter them from making a move for him. He still has the ability to take over a game on the offensive end of the court and was relatively healthy this past season. Rose may not be the reckless athlete that he once was, but he is still a capable franchise point guard.

Stevens is one of the best head coaches in the NBA and could do wonders for Rose’s career. He has always been an excellent head coach for point guards. Pairing Rose with Thomas would give the Celtics one of the most dynamic backcourt tandems in the league.

Looking ahead at the upcoming offseason, the Bulls have a lot of decisions to make. Pau Gasol is likely leaving town in free agency, and there have been trade rumors involving both Rose and Jimmy Butler. There is no telling what direction the team will go, but something has to happen this offseason after they missed the playoffs.

Danny Ainge has been aggressive in trade talks over the past couple of years, although nothing has ended up getting done. They were rumored to be involved in trade talks for Kevin Love, and they were also said to be interested in both Butler and Philadelphia 76ers’ rookie big man Jahlil Okafor.

Boston would immediately jump up in the Eastern Conference pecking order if they were able to acquire Rose. While he may not put up 20 or more points per game, he is still capable of going off for 30 points on any given night. Perhaps in another offense with a change of scenery, he could get back to being a 20-points-per-game scorer.

There are going to be a lot of moves made this offseason, both in free agency and on the trade wire. More money is available for teams to work with than in years past, and there are a lot of star players who will be available. Many believe that Rose has a good chance of being dealt, although only the Bulls know if that is true.

Expect to hear Rose’s name mentioned in a lot of different trade situations. Boston could be one of the teams that come calling if Rose is indeed on the market, and he would be a huge step in the right direction for the Celtics.
