‘Big Brother’ 18: Do New Julie Chen Promo Photos Offer Hints to Season Theme, Twist, House Guests?

The new cast reveal for Big Brother 18 is less than a day away, when house guests will be introduced to the public on Monday morning. In the meantime, photos have been released by CBS of Julie Chen posing with props in different locations, which may offer hints to the new season’s theme, reveal twists Big Brother may wish to throw at unwitting cast members, and could possibly give clues to who the new players are.

According to Carter Matt, for the photo shoot, Julie was placed in “random locations in order to showcase various themes.”

Photos of the new Big Brother 18 house have already been released and seem to be promoting a world traveler or international theme. In fact, there is an airport depicted high on the kitchen walls, the Eiffel Tower on the refrigerator, suitcases on the dining table, a British-themed room, a Japanese phone booth, and even what appears to be sand on the bathroom floor, which all indicate this year’s Big Brother is touting incredible destinations.

But what does it all mean? Carter Matt speculated that in the photo depicting Julie sitting on what looks like a New York stoop, one of the Big Brother 18 themes could be a “1990’s sitcom.” The rationale behind this, according to Carter Matt, is that there are not actually very many places that look like this in the Los Angeles area. Thus, Carter Matt surmised, “If nothing else, Julie seems to be ready for the Fourth of July!”

In yet another promo photo, Julie is seen kicking up her heels in a blue dress while holding multi-colored balloons and showing off her effervescent smile. According to Carter Matt, it appears Julie is “celebrating someone’s birthday,” or maybe, “someone just wanted her to walk around the CBS lot and take pictures.”

Again, the backdrop of this photo appears to be a gritty downtown street, but the exact locale represented is still a mystery.

Julie took to her Twitter page just days ago and posted a photo of her sitting on the beach in front of a sand castle. In the image, she is wearing a pink tank top and white shorts, and is placing a flag that reads “Big Brother” on top of the sand structure.

Additionally, @hamsterwatch posted another image on its Twitter feed, along with the others, that shows Julie casually sitting on a park bench in an off-the-shoulder white dress with a rubber ducky sitting on her left shoulder. Donned in sunglasses and flat sandals, as well as having a bag brimming with beach accessories, Julie looks like she’s ready to head to some extravagant oceanfront location.

Between the Big Brother 18 house photos and these images of Julie, it can probably be said with some degree of certainty that an international theme is part of the upcoming season. But as for twists, those could be very tricky to deduce.

Will the house guests be sent off on excursions to various locations? This, of course, is quite uncommon for Big Brother, but is not absolutely unheard of. A few times over the years, Big Brother has rewarded cast members with certain rewards for winning competitions that have included outings to major events. So it could happen, but just maybe it might take place in this season more than any other?

As for Julie’s photos offering any clues regarding the cast members, that is a tough one. In the just completed season of Big Brother Canada, two international players were placed in the house – one from Australia and one from the U.K. They played alongside the Canadian house guests to try and win the grand prize, but were not successful at doing so.

Although an international theme appears to be present in the Big Brother 18 house, it is unlikely this season’s game would go ahead and do the exact same thing its Canadian cousin has just done, but again, nothing can be completely ruled out until the cast members are revealed. Maybe the new cast members will be thrown into the house with a relative who comes from a distant land, which could be intriguing.

According to Big Brother Network, CBS’s All Access live feeds will air introductions to the new house guests during a meet and greet hosted by Jeff Schroeder Monday morning at 11 a.m. ET, when hopefully all will be revealed and the speculating can finally end.

But until then, what do you think?
