‘Mr. Robot’ Season 2 Spoilers: New Promo Trailer Teases Tyrell Wellick’s New Role

Mr. Robot Season 2 will premiere on July 13, 2016, on USA Network and the producers of the show have already released a couple of teaser trailers to get the audience excited and ready for the new season. According to the latest promo teaser, one of Mr. Robot‘s main characters could be set for a change of roles following the events that took place at the end of Season 1.

Tyrell Wellick (Martin Wallstrom) disappeared at the end of Season 1 of Mr. Robot shortly after the execution of the malware infection, which ultimately took down Evil Corp. Following the fall of Evil Corp and the subsequent global economic meltdown, several governments are now out to hunt the person behind fsociety, the acclaimed hacker organization, which is pushing for the world where everyone is free to do whatever they want.

While Wellick’s partnership with Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) in taking down Evil Corp may have been minimal, the abrupt turn of events at his former employer’s business where he was denied the opportunity to become Evil Corp CTO has led many to believe that Wellick is the man behind fsociety’s masked face. Only that he is not.

However, according to the latest promo trailer for Mr. Robot Season 2, it looks as if Tyrell Wellick may have yet to become the leader of fsociety, at least from a publicity perspective. One thing for sure though is that with Evil Corp almost certainly destroyed, Wellick will not be going back to chase after the position of the CTO at the company.

In addition, towards the end of Mr. Robot Season 1, Wellick also revealed to his wife, Joanna Wellick (Stephanie Corneliussen), that he had been chasing the wrong target by pushing to become the CTO of Evil Corp. Instead, he revealed that there is a grander idea, one in which he envisioned as becoming “a god,” the leader of something bigger.

Therefore, all these events coupled with USA Network’s latest teaser trailer for Season 2 indicate that Tyrell Wellick could be very central in the next season of Mr. Robot.

In the promo, the trailer begins with Elliot’s dead father’s voice saying, “Unfortunately we are all human, except me of course,” with the image of Tyrell Wellick displayed together with the words “Mr. Robot” and ends with the male voice telling Elliot that he is just joking.

In the Mr. Robot official trailer released on May 23, 2016, Elliot’s dead father, Mr. Robot (Christian Slater), tells him that the society cannot survive without a leader (these are Elliot’s subconscious thoughts since his father is already dead). Now, given Elliot’s condition, he is clearly in no position to lead a global hacker organization that is attracting attention from all arms of governments.

As such, it makes sense that Tyrell Wellick could become the leader of fsociety in Season 2 working together with Elliot towards creating the world free of the human demigods (the 1 percent of the 1 percent that controls everything in the world).

Mr. Robot has received several rave reviews among which it has drawn comparisons with multi-award winning TV show Dexter. This is especially due to the way Elliot identifies his victims, alongside his relationship with his father and sister. However, unlike in Dexter, he doesn’t work alone and his inner circle continues to expand.

His “dark passenger” is his dead father, pretty similar to Dexter‘s case only that in Season 2, Mr. Robot could actually become a real person in the form of Tyrell Wellick. Mr. Robot is expected to dive deep into the world of hacking in Season 2, which means that Elliot’s dead father will continue to appear in his subconscious.

However, the disappearance of Tyrell Wellick towards the end of Mr. Robot Season 1 appears to be what many fans are expecting to see unfold in Season 2. It will be interesting to see what the creator of the show Sam Esmail has in store for Mr. Robot fans. Does Tyrell become Mr. Robot and the leader of fsociety? This is very likely according to the latest teaser trailers.
