India arrived in Zimbabwe this week for a tour that includes a series of One-Day International matches followed by a T20 series. The Men in Blue got off to the right start with a win on Saturday and now look to follow up with another strong performance on Monday.
The second match will kick off Monday at 9 a.m. local time (7 a.m. GMT/3 a.m. ET) from Harare.
India cruised to an easy victory in the first ODI over the weekend, defeating the host country by nine wickets on Saturday. The Men in Blue were led by an unbeaten century from Lokesh Rahul, who smashed a six in his final ball to reach 100 on 115 balls.
Rahul also made a bit of history in doing so.
"I wasn't thinking much, there was just one way to get to a century," Rahul said after the match (via Cricket.com). "I wanted to hold my shape and just hit it (for a six).
"I enjoyed my batting. The wicket was tough, so I couldn't be complacent. I wanted to play out the new ball, and then take it from there. I'm really satisfied with the way I carried on and stayed 'til the end. The icing on the cake was when I was told that I was the first Indian to get a century on ODI debut."Rahul is one of a handful of India team members getting their first taste of international play. The Indian team has brought up a number of players from the IPL circuit, giving a break to regulars Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Suresh Raina.
The new faces give captain MS Dhoni a chance to sharpen his leadership skills and shape what could be the India team of the future.
"MS [Dhoni] is very excited to be part of a young bunch of players," Sanjay Bangar, India's interim coach, told ESPNcricinfo. "It's been a long time since he is getting an opportunity to play with younger players and pass on his experience."
Another one of the new players, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, is expected to take a major role on the team one day, One India noted.
The leg-spinner from Haryana, whom Sunil Gavaskar termed as the best young talent from the IPL 9, will be leading India's spin department. The 25-year-old Royal Challengers Bangalore bowler was widely appreciated for his talent and temperament.Fans who watch the India vs. Zimbabwe cricket match live online will see if the Men in Blue can continue the strong play from the first match. After winning the toss, India chose to let the host team bat first and held them to 168 and all out just short of 50 overs.
