‘Sister Wives’ Star Kody Brown Proves His Worth

When TLC’s Sister Wives first hit the air, it allowed viewers to see into a world many had never witnessed before, the world of polygamy. Kody Brown, head of the Brown family, started Sister Wives with three wives, Meri, Janelle, and Christine. Although Meri was the only wife legally married to Kody, the other two wives, Christine and Janelle, were spiritually married to Kody. Many viewers were not fans of Kody from the start of the show, but the distaste seemed to grow when Kody decided to take on a fourth wife, Robyn. Years later, Sister Wives has grown to include a total of 18 Brown children, the most recent born in January.

To say Kody is not liked by the general viewing audience of Sister Wives is an understatement. He is constantly being bashed on social media by viewers of Sister Wives. Americans, in general, have had a difficult time adjusting to the idea of this plural family. Polygamist families have lived in hiding for so long, that people did not know what to make of the Browns when they first started Sister Wives. Now that viewers have had more time to get to know the family through the show, it seems they relate more to Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn and still struggle to accept or even like Kody.

Rumors have been flying for weeks now that Kody is no longer interested in Sister Wives Meri, Janelle, or Christine and only spends time with Robyn. Reality fueled this rumor when Kody divorced first wife Meri to legally marry Robyn. Although Kody made the decision to divorce Meri so he could legally adopt Robyn’s three children from a previous marriage, fans were still not keen on the idea and called for Meri to divorce the rest of the family and leave Sister Wives. It was also rumored that Kody is looking for a fifth wife to add to the Sister Wives family. Whether there is any validity to this rumor remains to be seen.

For all that can be said negatively about Kody Brown, he proved his worth on last week’s episode of Sister Wives. In the episode, Robyn went into labor with her fifth child, Ariella Mae. It was revealed later in the episode that Kody had chosen Ariella’s name. Fans can’t deny that Kody stepped up his game for the birth of his 18th child. He was present the entire time Robyn was in labor. He made it clear that Robyn was in charge during the labor, and he was there to help her through it. He made sure that she was comfortable and helped her move into different positions. Often times, he held her as she leaned on him, and he rocked her from side to side trying to loosen her hips.

Kody did his best to do everything Robyn needed and took his cues from her. He was supportive and uplifting when she needed the motivation. He also made sure that when Robyn stopped breathing correctly, he constantly and gently corrected her so the baby’s oxygen supply was not affected. Kody is not known for being very loving to the wives on Sister Wives, but his personality during Robyn’s labor was a welcome change of pace.

How do you think Kody did during Robyn’s birth? Were you happy to see him being so attentive and supportive? Do you think there was anything he could have done differently? Were you surprised at all to hear that Kody was the one that picked Ariella’s name? Leave your feedback in the comments below and don’t miss the new episode of Sister Wives airing tonight at 8/7c on TLC.
