It Turns Out Rupert Grint Isn’t In Gryffindor After All — ‘Harry Potter’ Actors Are Sorted

Gryffindor. Slytherin. Hufflepuff. Ravenclaw.

If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you know exactly what Hogwarts house you belong in and you’re proud of your house. From wearing your house’s color to knowing every character that belongs to your house, Hogwarts house pride is serious. Although there’s a lot of different quizzes to discover which house you belong in, the official Pottermore quiz is the most reliable. So when it came time for Harry Potter actors to discover their true house, they went to Pottermore.

Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom), and Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) all sat down to take Pottermore’s Sorting Hat quiz. Some of the results were expected, while others were surprised by their results.

In the films, Grint, Wright, and Lewis’ characters are all sorted into Gryffindor, but only Wright was actually placed in the same house as her character, Ginny. Both Grint and Lewis were sorted into Hufflepuff. Although Grint seemed pleasantly surprised by getting sorted into Hufflepuff, Lewis didn’t seem too pleased.

“I got Hufflepuff and I’m thrilled,” Lewis said. “No I am, I really am happy with Hufflepuff. Of course I am. Excellent.”

“Hufflepuff. Oh yeah no I feel pretty good. Wasn’t what I was expecting,” Grint said about his results.

Wright was much more enthusiastic about her results.

“Guys I’m a Gryffindor. See! Gryffindor!” Wright said, turning around the screen so everyone could see her result.

The most ecstatic, however, was Evanna Lynch, who was placed into Gryffindor, unlike her character, Luna Lovegood, who was a Ravenclaw through and through.

“Gryffindor!” she exclaimed, turning her computer screen. “Thrilled but also not surprised.”

Of course, for Lynch, who has been a longtime Harry Potter fan, even before she was cast in the films, it was no surprise at all that she got Gryffindor. Back in 2011, when Pottermore first began, Lynch took the original Sorting Hat quiz and was also placed in Gryffindor.

Pottermore also posted extended versions of each actor going through the whole Sorting Hat quiz and discussing Pottermore.

The new Sorting Hat quiz is very in depth and has fun questions such as, “If you were attending Hogwarts which pet would you choose to take with you?” and “Which instrument would you play?”

Once sorted into your proper house, your personal Pottermore page becomes centered around your house. You are introduced into your house with a special message written by J. K. Rowling from a particular character that belongs to that house. For example, if you’re like Grint and Lewis, you’ll get a Hufflepuff Welcome Message from Prefect Gabriel Truman. He’ll tell you all about famous Hufflepuff wizards and what it means to be a Hufflepuff.

The revamped Pottermore site also lets you take a different quiz to pick out your wand. These questions are more factual than hypothetical, asking about your height, eye color, and if your birthdate is an even number. However, there are still some hypothetical questions that’ll make you think carefully, because once you finish the quiz, just as with the Sorting Hat quiz, you can’t retake it.

There’s been a lot of Harry Potter news this year, especially with the recent opening of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Spoilers about the play are already out and about, and you’ll have to try extra hard not to take a peek at them before you see the play or read the book when it’s released on July 31. One big reveal is the new generation of Harry Potter characters’ Hogwarts houses. We won’t spoil it for you, but one’s a bit of a surprise.
