Christina Grimmie And Justin Bieber: ‘Voice’ Star’s Dream Was To Work With Bieber One Day

When Christina Grimmie died so tragically on Friday, June 10, the 22-year-old Voice star had a dream. Grimmie had every reason to believe in her dream, as success followed upon success after her Voice third place finish in the 2014 season. Hollywood Life reports that Christina planned to pursue collaborations with a long list of artists as her “amazing career” grew along with her fan base. She’d already toured with Selena Gomez, and named Selena’s ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber, as one of the singers she most wanted to sing with some day.

The Mirror reports that in an interview with Pop Crush just three days before the tragic shooting, Christina shared some of her hopes for singing with Justin and for the future she would never have. Grimmie spoke about several artists she was looking forward to working alongside, and named Ariana Grande and One Direction as “dream tour” partners, when the magazine asked her who her choice would be if she “could choose anyone out there to go on tour with.”

“Someone like Ariana Grande or maybe One Direction, you know, if I had the dream tour.”

Grimmie went on to talk about Bieber, and said that the possibility of doing a show together with the “One Time” singer would be her “dream.”

“I’d love to open for Bieber it would be awesome, that would definitely be the crowd I would want to play to.”

There had been some speculation about possible boyfriends in Christina’s life, though Justin Bieber hadn’t yet been linked romantically with her.

Grimmie made it clear that her interest in Justin was purely professional, and that she “had no time for a boyfriend of her own” once she got started on her skyrocketing career as an independent artist, doing her own thing.

“I have no boyfriend. No time.”

Christina’s love of music took precedence over her interest in romance, and she said that there weren’t any men in her life who sent her “over the moon,” including Bieber. She was dedicated and committed to furthering her career and becoming a full-fledged star as big as Bieber himself. Grimmie had already come a long way on her journey from YouTube sensation, to Voice winner, to opening for big name acts.

Christina had big ideas for the upcoming year, even if she didn’t manage to secure a 2016 tour with Justin Bieber. Her to-do list included focusing on writing for a full length album out this year following upon the Side A EP and another tour to promote the album.

Christina’s interview about her exciting and growing plans for the future aired on June 7, just days before the tragic shooting that ended her hopes and her life outside her last concert. Grimmie was outside signing autographs for fans after a concert in Orlando, Florida, where she had opened for the band, Before You Exit.

Christina was surrounded by fans and friends outside the concert hall when an unknown gunman opened fire. Grimmie’s brother attempted to save her by tackling the gunman, but though he brought the attacker down, the bullets found their mark. While Christina’s brother heroically attempted to divert the gun away from his sister, the gunman managed to turn the gun on himself to “end his own life” as well as Christina’s life.

Now, her dream tour will never be realized, and the possibility of seeing Grimmie on stage with Justin Bieber or any of her favorite artists is forever gone. Family, friends and fans are heartbroken as they mourn the loss of a beautiful young woman and rising star. RIP Christina Grimmie.
