Kendall Jenner is an international fashion model who, at the relatively young age of 20, has a staggering amount of paparazzi following her around in order to keep tabs on her street style. Considering the fact that her style, street or otherwise, is integral to her career, Jenner has made the perhaps gutsy decision to chop off her signature brunette tresses and go with a shorter haircut for the summer, according to E! News.

The E! cable network, which is under the umbrella of the NBC Universal parent company, airs the primetime reality television series Keeping Up with the Kardashians, on which Kendall Jenner has a starring role alongside the rest of her famous family.

Kendall Jenner shared her new haircut on Snapchat on Friday, causing many to comment that Jenner’s new lob looks quite similar to her older maternal half-sister Khloé Kardashian’s recent haircut, though hers is blonde. Kendall Jenner seems to have kept her hair’s natural dark brown color.

E! News reports that Jenner’s younger sister Kylie Jenner, age 18, is much more prone to regularly changing her haircut or hairstyle, making Kendall Jenner’s hairstyle switch more of a surprise. The Daily Mail estimates that this new haircut removed approximately 10 inches from the elder Jenner’s hair.

Kendall Jenner may have had a reason to make a splash in the headlines on Friday of all days, as she and Kylie Jenner launched their swimwear line in partnership with British fashion retailer Topshop on that very day. The Kardashian/Jenner family is, perhaps unfairly, largely known for media manipulation in conjunction with not only their hit reality television series but with the sales of their various product lines. These comprise mostly fashion lines, including a children’s clothing line called Kardashian Kids, but also individual apps and emojis. Kim Kardashian West, another maternal half-sister of Kendall Jenner, launched a wildly popular mobile app and Facebook game called Kim Kardashian: Hollywood in 2014.

For their part, MTV News agrees that a drastic hairstyle change or haircut for Kendall Jenner is unusual enough to gin up quite a bit of media attention.

“For someone who is related to women who change their hair on the regular, Kendall has remained consistent with her long, glossy locks.”

Teen Vogue went so far as to proclaim Kendall Jenner’s new hair as “her first big permanent hair change,” reminding us that Jenner’s hair has been consistently long and straight since the 2007 launch of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, when she was only around 11 years old.

“Kendall has switched up her look for runways and editorials at the requests of editors and designers, but none of them have ever been permanent. She wore platinum blonde hair in an Alice and Wonderland themed spread for Vogue and hot pink hair for another. She’s even sported faux bangs a handful of times, but admitted she would never actually get some fringe.”

Kendall and Kylie Jenner’s new swimwear line, the possible impetus for this media blitz surrounding Kendall Jenner’s hair, is only the latest installment in the Kendall + Kylie clothing line venture. It started as a Juniors’ collection in partnership with PacSun in 2012 and expanded into a fuller collection of women’s styles in partnership with Topshop in 2015. It is billed as mid-range in terms of price, and has been curated at department stores such as Nordstrom. The Jenner sisters describe their fashion line as California-inspired, despite Topshop’s English roots.

Kendall Jenner is the daughter of talent manager and Keeping Up with the Kardashians star Kris Jenner (née Houghton, formerly Kardashian) and 1976 Olympic gold medalist Caitlyn Jenner.
