Weight Loss Study Confirms That Healthy Fats Are Essential For Weight Loss

Finding the right weight loss information is often hard. It seems that every week, there's a new scientific study that contradicts the one released the week before. The best tips are those that dieters stick to, and they will do better if they make long term lifestyle changes instead of just focusing on losing weight. Food is the most important part of weight loss, so it's important to eat the right foods in order to lose weight.

PopSugar reported that the Mediterranean diet is the best diet for losing weight. High fat diets aren't bad as long as they contain the right kinds of fats, like the Mediterranean Diet. The latest study released confirms eating a high fat diet will help dieters to lose weight.

Predimed conducted a survey with over 7,000 men aged 55 to 80. The men in the study were monitored over a five year period. They ate a diet that focused on fish, fruit, vegetables, and nuts. Their diets didn't include red meat, sugar, or butter. Researchers assigned three different versions of the Mediterranean diet among the men.

The first included an unrestricted calorie diet that included extra virgin olive oil, while the second diet added nuts, and the third diet was low-fat. Those who included olive oil in their diet saw the highest weight loss, and the dieters saw the lowest increase in waist size when they used used olive oil. This is important because abdominal fat is an important component in heart attack, and the men in the study were older.

As previously reported in Inquisitr, the right weight loss tips need to be healthy to bring the right results. Keeping the weight off for good means making lifestyle changes. Dieters can choose to make changes that work for them, but it's also important to eat healthy food. Losing weight should focus on improving a person's health. Although calories in and calories out is important, it doesn't tell the whole story. It's possible to lose weight eating junk food as long as there is calorie restriction, but it's not healthy.

Food Navigator said that the latest weight loss information indicated that high fat diets were effective for losing weight. Dr. Ramon Estruch of the University of Barcelona said that the information indicates that there needs to be a radical reassessment of what actually works to lose weight.

"More than 40 years of nutritional policy has advocated for a low-fat diet but we're seeing little impact on rising levels of obesity. Our study shows that a Mediterranean Diet rich in vegetable fats such as olive oil and nuts had little effect on body weight or waist circumference compared to people on a low fat diet."
Experts emphasized that although a diet high in fat is beneficial in weight loss, they also emphasized that it was important to eat the right types of fats and avoid a diet high in fats like butter or meat fat. Susan Jebb, a professor of diet and population health at the University of Oxford said dieters should be cautious in interpreting the results. She pointed to the fact that those who used a low-fat diet for weight loss were only able to reduce their fat intake from 40 percent to 37 percent. Doctors who recommend low fat diets for weight loss and health recommend that dieters eat about 30 percent of their calories from fat.
