Ben Affleck Shares His Bromance With Matt Damon For National Best Friends Day

Yesterday was National Best Friends Day, and, like people everywhere, Hollywood friendships were recognized and celebrated on the special day. One of the most public Hollywood friendships is that of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, so it may not be surprising that Affleck shared his love for Damon in a social media post, honoring the tight bromance Ben has shared with Damon through many years.

Ben Affleck Shares His Appreciation For Best Friend Matt Damon With His Instagram Followers

Affleck put together a collage of himself and Matt Damon celebrating The Bourne Identity actor’s birthday and shared it as a single image, simply captioning it with “This guy” and that seemed to be enough to show just how much Ben appreciates their friendship. Matt and Ben have shared their friendship with the world, often working together on film projects, when they’re not hanging out off camera. The friendship shared between the pair is so well recognized that Spike TV recently honored the friendship by presenting Ben Affleck and Matt Damon with the Guys of the Decade award at Spike’s Guys Choice Awards 2016, which aired this past Saturday.

“I think it goes without saying that this is an award Matt and I have been dreaming about since we were little boys,” Affleck said, during the acceptance speech. “I did Gigli, and Matt did that Liberace movie and all of a sudden, it all seemed out of reach. Then I did [Batman v. Superman] and all of a sudden, it was back in reach again.”

Damon, sharing his wry sense of humor, added his own gratitude for the award and acknowledged a long forgotten bromance from just a few decades ago, when ER was topping the ratings list and Friends was still fresh and funny.

“We will cherish this, and we want to recognize some of the other nominees,” Matt added. “Some of the dudes who weren’t quite as decade-worthy: George Clooney and Brad Pitt.”

Ben Affleck And Matt Damon Have Always Been Like Brothers

Matt and Ben have been together forever, or so it must seem, because the pair were friends long before they became the Hollywood legends of today. Affleck and Damon grew up together in a Massachusetts suburb and found that they shared a love for acting and theater. Eventually, they made the big move across the country, where they could pursue their dreams of acting in Hollywood. Good fortune was on their side, because one of their early projects, Good Will Hunting, which Matt and Ben wrote and starred in together, achieved great success and put both men on the map.

Fans were again reminded of the deep bond shared by these two friends, when Jennifer Garner filed for divorce from Affleck. Mr. Damon was at Ben’s side throughout the entire drama, consoling his best friend and taking the heat from the press for keeping Affleck’s interest at heart. Even when cornered by prying paparazzi, Damon would only say that Ben was coping with the situation and doing well.

Matt Damon is returning to The Bourne Identity franchise with Jason Bourne, due out on July 29. In this latest sequel, Damon’s character remembers who he is and launches an investigation to uncover the secrets of his past. Jason Bourne also stars Alicia Vikander and Julia Stiles.

Ben Affleck is set to reprise his version of Batman in a solo Batman reboot. The relaunching of the Batman franchise will offshoot from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with Affleck also writing the script for the new film. As the project is still in the early development stages, there is no release date at this time.
