Roseanne Barr Has Strong Words About Politics, Pot, And The Pope

Roseanne Barr has some strong opinions about the upcoming presidential election. While she has already picked her preferred candidate, the 63-year-old former Roseanne star says votes don’t matter because it’s all fixed. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Barr talked about her own presidential run in 2012 and dissected the current crop of frontrunners in the upcoming election.

Roseanne Barr has long been fed up with the two-party political system, so four years ago she decided to run for office herself and make a documentary about it. Barr’s 2012 run as a Green Party candidate and later on the Peace and Freedom Party ticket is detailed in the new documentary Roseanne For President, due out July 1.

Four years after her satirical run, Barr gave her perspective on the current election and the roles of Donald and Trump and Hillary Clinton.

“Do you know anything about wrestling? It’s all fixed, just like our election system,” Roseanne said. “I think Hillary [Clinton] probably got the receipt, because she paid for the Oval Office. And both Trump and Bernie are playing the heel for Hillary.”

Barr said that, despite what some people believe, their vote doesn’t matter in the “fixed” election.

“No, it doesn’t matter at all. And if it did, they wouldn’t let you do it,” Roseanne said. “It’s a failure of representatives. They’re just in there taking whatever money they can get and none of them represents the public. They’re gettin’ paid with public money to f**k the public… What matters is what’s on the ballot. It’s not who runs, it’s who is allowed on it.”

Roseanne Barr also makes her stance on the 2016 election clear, saying she’s tired of the dirty money that’s passed around by career politicians.

“I think we would be so lucky if Trump won. Because then it wouldn’t be Hillary,” she said. “I like Trump because he financed his own [campaign]. That’s the only way he could’ve gotten that nomination. Because nobody wants a president who isn’t from Yale and Harvard and in the club… [Americans] say they believe that people should take money out of politics and then, you know, they send their paycheck to Bernie [Sanders] and off he goes to hang out with the pope on a private jet on that money.”

Speaking of the Pope, Barr had a few choice words about him, too.

“He owns almost every dollar in the world, that guy,” Roseanne said. “So I thought you weren’t supposed to make a big profit if you’re in the helpin’ people business. That kind of speaks ill of you. When you got billions in profits for helping people and they’re starvin’ and s**t, that doesn’t make a lot of sense.”

Roseanne Barr is a major marijuana advocate, and in the interview, she also revealed that she is opening a dispensary in Santa Ana, California, right around the time her movie comes out in July.

“I ran on legalization and I do use it, “Barr said. “I smoke a lot of it. It’s ganja, God made it, it’s awesome.”

According to The Wrap, Barr suffers from glaucoma and macular degeneration, and she uses medical marijuana to help treat her deteriorating eyesight. Barr has touted cannabis as a “natural, therapeutic, herbal substance,” and she said her pot shop, Roseanne’s Joint, will be “a responsible, contributing addition to the community.”

As for the presidential election, Barr may not have many kind words for Hillary Clinton, but even she had to admit it’s about time a woman made major strides in a major political party. Barr took to Twitter to write that it is exciting that a woman “has secured the nomination of a major party for the first time in American history.”

Still, Hillary probably won’t get Rosie’s vote. Not that it matters.
