Happy Birthday, Prince! Celebrating Prince’s Birthday In Minnesota And Beyond

Happy Birthday, Prince, wherever you are. According to a CNN report, Prince Rogers Nelson never celebrated his birthday. He chose not to do so for religious reasons. However, that doesn’t mean his fans won’t celebrate on his behalf, whether it be in Minneapolis or beyond.

If the pop icon was still alive, today would have marked his 58th birthday. To commemorate the occasion, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton took it upon himself to declare June 7, 2016, “Prince Day.”

The official proclamation refers to some of Prince’s many accomplishments including the creation of his revolutionary music, his inspirational movie Purple Rain, seven Grammy Award wins, and creating “The Minneapolis Sound,” which aided in the growth and worldwide prominence of Minnesota.

The proclamation goes on to ask the people of Minnesota to consider wearing something purple today in honor of Prince and the color he loved so well.

After Governor Dayton officially declared today “Prince Day” on his Twitter feed, it blew up with comments from Prince’s fans. As you can probably guess, they’re ecstatic with the news and hope the same thing happens again next year.

Us Weekly Magazine previously indicated that one of Prince’s good friends spoke about the musician’s love of Minnesota. His long-time bassist, Nik West, made the following statement about Prince’s desire to remain in the state where he was born.

“He said Minneapolis raised him … [moving] will never happen. He would say, ‘I’m never leaving … there’s a legacy here for me.’ He was just all about just being who he was — being at home.”

Even though Prince had the means to live anywhere in the world, he made the decision to live and work in Chanhassen. As recently reported by the Inquisitr, Prince’s Paisley Park compound is where he always came home to.

In 1985, Prince had a vision. He wanted someplace where he could have everything under one roof. He wanted someplace to create his music, do choreography, produce movies, and pursue anything else that might have piqued his interest. So, the concept of Paisley Park was born.

Although Prince never celebrated his own birthday at Paisley Park, he celebrated many other events there. If you want to get a peek inside of Prince’s spectacular compound, take a few minutes to watch this video. It gives you some idea of the place The Purple One called home. To say it’s truly breathtaking is an understatement.
