Iman Pens Tribute To David Bowie On Their 24th Wedding Anniversary

Iman and David Bowie would have celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary on June 6. In a tribute to her late husband, the 60-year-old supermodel penned a heartwarming message on Instagram, Us Weekly reports.

“June 6th…., 24th wedding anniversary #foreverlove,” the supermodel wrote in the caption of a beautiful black and white photo of her and Bowie. According to Us Weekly, this photo was featured in a past issue of Vogue and was shot by celebrated photographer, Bruce Weber.

“The best thing about me is you,” is written in bold text on the photo.

The “Ziggy Stardust” rock legend passed away on January 10 at the age of 69 after a two-year battle with cancer.

The death of her beloved husband devastated Iman, a source told Us Weekly at the time.

“They were romantic until the end,” another insider told Us of the couple. “They made time for date nights. He would write her letters and poems. It was like they were still young lovers.”

“They really knew each other because they had come up and traveled in the same circles. They were great together,” the couple’s close friend, Teddy Antolin, said to People Magazine back in January.

“She was a real force, and he needed a woman by his side to keep him focused,” Antolin said of David Bowie and Iman’s relationship.

Despite her emotional devastation at Bowie’s death, Iman put on a brave front because of her daughter, sources told Us.

“Iman is staying strong for Lexi,” an unnamed friend of the couple told Us Weekly.

On her wedding day, Iman wore a white halter gown designed by Hervé Leger, Yahoo Style reports. The dress featured a long train and Iman accessorized the ensemble with pearl and diamond drop earrings. She wore her hair up in a pretty dramatic style, with curls cascading down her back.

“I wanted something very simple, elegant, no frills, no fashion, no gimmicks. Something that would outlast anything,” she said in an interview at the time.

For his part, Bowie wore a tuxedo with tails, designed by Thierry Mugler.

“I asked my good friend Thierry Mugler, who has been designing my suits for a good few years now, to do a variation on traditional tails,” the “Space Oddity” singer said. “He has done a delightful job. I think it looks quite dashing. I know Mugler likes it, but Mugler likes everything he designs, and nine times out of 10, so do I.”

According to Us Weekly, David Bowie and Iman first met in 1990 after Bowie’s hairdresser played matchmaker and set them up. In 1992, Iman and Bowie got married in a ceremony in Switzerland. They have one child together, Lexi, who was born in the year 2000.

Before the death of David Bowie, Iman taped an interview for Oprah’s Where Are they Now series. In it, she discussed her deep love for her late husband and what made their marriage work for so long.

“You have to be at the right time in your life that you’re ready for an everlasting relationship, that it becomes first and a priority in your life,” she said. “If your career is important to you, don’t get married and have children, because something will give. I know we as women, we want to be able to have it all, but we can’t have it all at the same time. So make your priority of what you want at that time.”
