Nick Cannon’s Divorce Comments Stop Mariah Carey’s Wedding, But So Does James Packer’s Marriage To Wife In Australia

Nick Cannon has refused to sign the divorce papers that will end his marriage to Mariah Carey and allow her to marry billionaire James Packer. According to TMZ, Nick is still in love with Mariah and doesn’t want her to marry James, who also has a divorce to finalize with his estranged wife, Erica Packer.

At this point, no one knows for sure why the 35-year-old actor, comedian, and rapper is preventing the divorce he initiated from going through because he isn’t talking. Besides, he isn’t the only obstacle in the way of Mariah Carey and the Australian businessman’s extravagant wedding plans.

While the popular diva’s high profile engagement is set to culminate into a high-profile marriage (and most likely another divorce) this summer in the Caribbean island of Barbuda, Packer’s divorce from Erica Baxter is also taking a while to work its way through the Australian court system and may not be finalized before the lovebirds are scheduled to walk down the aisle.

Packer and his estranged wife, Erica, have been separated since 2013, but unlike Cannon, Erica has happily moved on with Heidi Klum’s ex-husband Seal and isn’t standing in the way of his happiness. One would think Packer could buy a quicker divorce with a net worth of $3.5 billion, but it seems that there are still things money can’t buy, and besides, even if Baxter could speed things along, he still has to convince Nick Cannon to play ball.

Cannon has 4-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, from his six-year marriage to the 46-year-old singer, and even though he is the one that filed for divorce back in December, 2014, he has yet to sign off on the divorce that he wanted. The speculating that he is having second thoughts and doesn’t want Mariah to marry her ultra-rich fiancé James Packard is odd, based on the views he expressed in an interview with Du Jour.

“If you heard that there was a 50/50 chance of living or dying when you jump out of a plane, you probably wouldn’t go skydiving. There’s like a 50/50 chance of marriage working. If it didn’t work out for you the first time, and you still survived it, you probably shouldn’t do it again.”

Nick Cannon’s cynicism is typical from a person who is dealing with a failed relationship — which raises the question, “Why is he still tied to an institution he doesn’t respect?”

Cannon has been linked to Eddie Murphy’s ex, Nicole Murphy, everybody’s ex, Amber Rose, ANTM alum Winnie Harlow, and model Jessica White since he separated from Mariah, but doesn’t seem to be seriously booed up with a steady lady. Meanwhile, Mariah Carey is set to marry a ridiculously rich man seems much more optimistic about marriage than her flaky former husband. If she wants to be married and Nick doesn’t, what is the holdup? Is this simply a case of “I don’t want her, but I don’t want anybody else to have her either?”

A recent Facebook posting gives the best clues to Nick Cannon’s mindset, suggesting that he still loves his estranged wife and doesn’t want to share her or his kids with a man she hasn’t known that long. Currently, Cannon is a primary cast member on Real Husbands of Hollywood, and is the host of America’s Got Talent and TeenNick Top 10, in addition to being the chairman of Teen Nick, and he is working on new music. How he finds the time to strategically foil his exes plans for happiness is inspirational for diehard romantics.
