‘Agent Carter’ Star Hayley Atwell Is Campaigning To Revive Series

Agent Carter retired from the ABC line up this past may, but the series’ star, Hayley Atwell, isn’t taking the cancellation of the Marvel series well at all. In fact, Atwell is letting everyone know, fans and critics alike, that she’s more than just hoping for an Agent Carter revival. She’s pushing for it. This past Saturday, Hayley appeared before Agent Carter and Marvel fans at MegaCon in Orlando, Florida, to plead her case for bringing Agent Carter back for further adventures.

Agent Carter Star Hayley Atwell Wants More And She’s Not Alone

Atwell isn’t sitting on her hands, hoping for an Agent Carter revival because she needs the work. To the contrary, Hayley is working a full schedule with her role on a new ABC series, Conviction, but, even so, she says she would happily work weekends to film Agent Carter for a streaming service like Netflix. She told fans that she’s “100 percent” committed to bringing Agent Carter back.

“I love Peggy,” said Atwell. “I love the people that were working on this project together. The fans are incredibly warm and welcoming. And it would be an absolute privilege and honor to bring her back for the fans.”

Ms. Atwell isn’t alone in her desire to revive the Agent Carter series. A petition signed by 116,000 fans is currently circulating on Change.org, proving that there’s fan support for Hayley’s campaign to reboot her former show. The Agent Carter actress isn’t just campaigning for the show’s return on a whim. She already has planned out a story arc for a new season.

“There was talk of season 3 of going further back into her past,” Hayley said. “So the showrunners were talking about a possible kind of twist, I suppose, into something to do with the family.”

Atwell revealed just a little more, but seemed resistant to going into detail, just in case there is enough interest to bring Agent Carter back. Netflix is famous for adopting the orphaned shows of network television, so an Agent Carter return isn’t entirely out of the realm of possibility.

“They suggested there would be more to do with my brother,” Atwell revealed of Agent Carter’s planned third season. “So that’s all I can say.”

Hayley Atwell Predicts Peggy Carter’s Reaction To A Captain America: Civil War Kiss

Captain America leads a complicated life and that’s as true for his love life as it is for his career as a superhero. Before he fell into that deep sleep, courtesy of having been frozen in a block of ice, Steve Rogers was consumed with a burning love for Peggy Carter. As time passed, Agent Peggy Carter aged, fell in love, married — essentially went on with her life, but she never really fell out of love with Steve.

Decades later, Rogers awakens from his age-defying slumber to find a changed world, a world in which Carter eventually passes away. Some might argue that her body isn’t yet cold, when Steve finds love with another, Peggy’s niece, no less. Hayley Atwell offers her thoughts about just how Peggy might react to this, given a scenario where the Agent Carter character might be able to witness this new romance.

“Well, first of all she’d be turning over in her grave. She’d be like ‘no,'” says Atwell.

It doesn’t stop there. The Agent Carter actress says her character would be so affronted by this betrayal that she might even switch sides.

“And she’d inject herself with the blue serum and become a super villain. She’d break out of her coffin and ground [Sharon]. She’d ground her. Then she’d kick Steve’s a– as well. I just feel that, you know – I wouldn’t want to date my great aunt’s guy. It just feels like it crosses an incestuous boundary,” Hayley points out. “And Peggy just died. That’s even more disrespectful, right? It’s like, ‘Don’t touch that. You can’t tap that!'”

Beyond the jealousy, Atwell points out that Peggy would want better for her niece, especially after learning about Captain America’s hidden allegiances.

“[Peggy would] want the best for her [niece] and she’d want her dating a good guy. And now with this whole ‘Hail Hydra’ business, I don’t know if Steve’s good enough for her. So on all levels, it’s just a big fat no.”
