Suspects Arrested After Park Beating Of 19-Year-Old Girl In Southern Minn. Turns Fatal


Authorities have reported that on Wednesday June 1 they discovered 19-year-old, Cheyenne Lee Clough badly beaten at Crow Springs County Park and that on Saturday the teenager succumbed to her injuries and passed away. Today they have three suspects for the fatal park beating in custody.

According to the Wright County Sheriff’s office Clough passed away on Saturday as a result of her injuries and they posted the update online. The homes of the persons of interest who were wanted in connection to the assault and now for the death of Cheyenne Lee Clough were raided on Sunday and two of them were placed under arrest after being found at the home near International Falls. In custody now are two residents of Maple Lake, 28-year-old Justin Jensen and 33-year-old Natasha Brandenburger, who were apprehended after the search of a home near Pelland Junction in Koochiching County. Wright County Sheriff Joe Hagerty reported that they were brought in without much of a struggle about 6:41 a.m.

A third suspect was also arrested in Staples Minnesota, and is now being held in connection with Clough’s death as well. The arrest of 26-year-old Edward Zelko from Buffalo, came about in a separate incident. According to WJON, the police are still seeking a vehicle that is connected to the case, a white/cream 2008 Honda Accord with Minnesota license plates that read 307-LCX.

Last week the deputies had been called to Crow Springs Park just south of Buffalo where they discovered the badly beaten teenager. Clough was found suffering from life-threatening injuries, laying outside of the Springs Park after being left for dead. The North Memorial Hospital reported that the young woman was transported to the hospital in critical condition on Wednesday. Originally she had been taken to Buffalo Allina Hospital but was later flown to North Memorial Hospital.

The exact cause of death for Cheyenne Lee Clough will be advised after the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office conducts an autopsy.

Lt. Todd Hoffman of the Wright County Sheriff’s Department announced the persons of interest last Thursday and had asked the public for their help in locating Jensen and Brandenburger. None of the three persons of interest have formally been named as suspects. Edward Zelko was arrested at a traffic stop.

Hoffman advised that though no motive has been established for the attack on the 19-year-old, KARE wrote that the officer did say that they police department are sure that what happened to the victim is “not a random act of violence,” and it is suspected that the park beating of the teenager possibly involves the members of the drug culture.

Clough had last been seen at the park on Tuesday afternoon in Maple Lake and the beating is believed to have occurred sometime between that time and early Wednesday morning. The police are operating under the premise that the teenager was beaten at the park but that is not an absolute.
