Emmett Township Sheriff Deputy And Wife Found — Bodies In Backyard [Breaking]
A sheriff deputy and his wife were found dead at their home in Emmett Township, Michigan. Both suffered gunshot wounds.
The deputy and wife — who haven’t been named due to temporary confidentiality — were found in their home by a family member. Immediately, the family member called a 911 dispatcher concerning the situation, around 7:51 a.m., on June 5.

Southwest of Battle Creek, on the block of McAlister Road, the wife and sheriff deputy were found in the house’s backyard. According to Detroit Free Press, Police Chief Mike Olson mentioned that they found a handgun at the sheriff deputy‘s residence. And both the deputy and wife’s bodies suffered gun shot wounds.
According to Sheriff Matt Saxton, the deputy had been with the police force for 18 years. While authorities believe this shooting incident to be “domestic related,” they’re currently investigating the situation. Several co-workers have been affected by the tragic ordeal, and the sheriff mentions that the department will offer assistance for any deputies or officers who need help dealing with their loss.
The sheriff mentions, “As an organization, the Sheriff’s Office is greatly saddened for the family and will do everything we can to assist after this tragedy.” The source notes that Emmett Township police received plenty of help with the sheriff deputy’s investigation. The assisting agencies were the:

- Calhoun County Sheriff Department
- Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office
- Calhoun County Medical Examiners Office
From Western Michigan University’s School of Medicine, Emmett Township authorities are expecting the autopsy results on Monday, June 6. For now, according to WWMT-3 News, several possibilities are being considered at the moment. Accordingly, “murder-suicide” isn’t excluded.
