Fans can watch the Kenya vs. Congo football match live online and see if the Harambee Stars can hold off the relentless attack from Congo and notch their first win in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations group round.
The teams will meet Sunday in a 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier, with start time scheduled for 2 p.m CAT. Kenya is at the bottom of Group E with losses to Zambia and Guinea-Bissau, while Congo is second in the group.
The Harambee Stars are feeling the pressure after a poor showing in the group round, and Kenya coach Stanley Okumbi is looking for a win Nairobi.
“Kenyans are on my neck because at the moment, we are not performing. We will go into that match looking for a win and each of us is working hard to get that three points. It is important for our pride and also for our rankings,” Okumbi told SuperSport.
But fans who watch the Kenya vs. Congo football match live online could see a big boost for the Harambee Stars as striker Michael Olunga is back with the team from his post in Sweden and looking to give more firepower to a team that has scored just two goals in its last four matches.
“I think our biggest problem has been the lack of goals that is why everyone is saying we are not playing well. Once we start scoring, then we will be better,” Okumbi said. “I think it is a football problem all over Kenya, even in the Kenyan Premier League. Our strikers are not scoring goals.”
While Kenya will be looking to notch its first win of the qualifying round, Congo is trying to move into the top spot in the group with a win. They currently sit one point behind Guinea-Bissau, and coach Pierre Lechantre said he plans to bring the attack to Kenya on Sunday.
Lechantre said he has been studying game film on the Harambee Stars and believes Congo has the experience to take on their opponents.
“We will attack Kenya and that is for sure,” Lechantre told Goal.com. “We are not here to play defensive football but attacking and entertaining football. We want to win and will press for goals from onset.”
He will be leaning on a number of players with experience in Europe’s top leagues, including former FC Kalloni winger Paul Were. As AllAfrica noted, Congo has a depth of talent from Europe.
“One player who will be returning and might make a huge difference is striker Thievy Bifouma.
“The 24-year old Espanyol striker who spent last season on loan with French side Reims is one of the most feared Congolese forwards.
“His speed and finesse in finishing will be a point of concern for the Stars’ backline and his partnership with the lanky Ferebory Dore is expected to be fierce.”
Fans who watch the Kenya vs. Congo football match live online could see a bit of a different lineup from Kenya. Lechantre said the Harambee Stars — who are already out of contention with still two matches remaining — may have an eye on preparing for Chan 2018 and could be testing out some new players.
There could be other stakes for Kenya, even if they cannot advance in the tournament. They are currently 129th in the FIFA rankings and a win over Congo could help them move toward the top 100, AllAfrica noted.
